Just on topic:

Ten Commandments school displays could soon be required in Louisiana

"Legislation that would require all schools that receive state money to display the Ten Commandments in each classroom gained approval Thursday from the Louisiana Senate and is on its way to the House for apparent final approval."

The First Amendment is supposed to protect the American public from having someone else's religion imposed on them.

Obviously that doesn't count when zealots have an agenda.

"Sen. Adam Bass, R-Bossier City, carried the bill for its author, Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, and presented the Ten Commandments as a historical document that merited a place of prominence in classrooms."

But teaching an honest portrayal of slavery is prohibited. Got it.

I’m willing to bet people supporting this would lose their shit if the 10 pillars of Islam were posted next to the Commandments. Or the tenets of the Satanic Temple. Except that's exactly what freedom of religion requires. RIGHT?

I dunno, but if this god character is on the side of assholes like Gordon Klingenschmitt then maybe he's the bad guy and needs to be overthrown... Just sayin'.

Religious-right activist Gordon Klingenschmitt warns that the Biden administration is actively recruiting lesbians into the military because "they want a demonic military" to help the Antichrist "rise and take over the world."

I mean, is he saying that Biden is prepping a demonic army so that Trump can take over the world when he's re-elected? Honestly, I find this hard to follow.

Trump ticks off a lot of the boxes of the anti-Christ, if you think about it. As someone who is a hardcore atheist, this just tells me that evil people today are pretty much the same as evil people from history. Whoever wrote Revelations must have seen or known the history of evil leaders and imagined those things taken to another level.

And frankly, I'm not seeing how following an Antichrist and his demon military would be in any way worse than hanging out with the religious right and letting them have things their way at this point.

Makes sense. People who are constantly condemning others in the name of God aren't winning any converts.

Conservative Christians are driving more Americans away from religion altogether

The incredible hypocrisy is what turns people off. Justifying hate and bigotry using the Bible is what turns people off. Using the hypocrisy and hate to pass laws that hurt people is what turns people off.

I learned these lessons early in life.

Modern Christianity has sown the seeds of its own demise. Not all Christianity of course, but certainly the "fundamentalist" sort that wants to control what others do and say.

The Coronavirus is the product of a godless global conspiracy" This theory is being spoon-fed to millions of listeners by the infamous Radio Maria in Italy. Its CEO, Livio Fanzaga frequently fills the morning air with his claims that the global pandemic is in fact a criminal project driven by the global elites. You know how the story goes. Their end game? Creating a godless world. Whatever that's supposed to mean.

You can stream Radio Maria here:
https://radiomaria.us/listen-to-the-radio/

You see, politics and the media are ruled by Satan's global conspiracy, according to this narrative. The purpose of this project is to suck humanity dry of its living forces, put it on its knees and establish a global dictatorship. To create a world that would eliminate everybody who doesn't bow down to this criminal project.

For the past several weeks there has been an argument in Australian politics, following the sacking of Israel Folau by Rugby Australia. Israel has in the past said there is no room for homophobia in rugby, but recently has had his contract revoked by RA that after a social media post that gays (along with drunks, atheists, all the usual suspects) were going to hell. Odd to be calling attention to the Old Testament verses when one has worked on the Sabbath and is covered in tatoos.

Israel has appealed to the Fair Work Commission on the basis of freedom of religious expression. Rugby Australia has argued that it has a duty of care to provide a workplace that is safe and respectful. Despite owning several properties, Folau initiated a GoFundMe campaign, which seemed a bit odd given that he has a massive property portfolio. It raised several hundred thousand dollars before being shut down as a breach of the terms of service.

Bulgarian Foreign Minister: Bulgaria Will be the Reason why the EU Will Not to Apply the Istanbul Convention

Bulgaria’s National Strategy for the Child 2019-2030 withdrawn following disinformation campaigns

What a reactionary society, you'd say! One of many across Europe lately, I'd add. Have people paradoxically become stupider and more misinformed as the age of total and instant information advances, you'd ask? Well, partly so. But there's more to that story. It could all actually be a result of a well coordinated effort. So do bear with me, as we delve deeper into the backyard shenanigans of populist right-wing NGOs. (You didn't think only Soros and his liberal NGOs were calling the shots, did you? How naive of you!)

There are six things the LORD hates, As even that are detestable to him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,
A false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Christian pastor weeps as he prays for God to destroy Trump’s ‘enemies’

Let me see, Trump's worst enemy is himself, so I might get behind that idea of God destroying his enemies. :-)

Anyway; these are just words. There's nothing to worry about here. Trump supporters are not known for going out and being violent in the name of God... Sure, that one time... And that other time... And... Oh, I'm going to stop talking now.

Red hats, white hoods, it's all starting to look a bit familiar... A new era of racism and hate that’s mirroring the Jim Crow and civil rights era? Or I'm just imagining things?

May not be real political, but i had to share this. The irony is overwhelming.

Owners of Kentucky Noah’s Ark attraction sue over heavy rain damage

Brought to you by the same nuts who built the nearby Creation Museum where you can see wax Jesus and wax T-Rex chilling together. The arc is actually political because they ran over budget and persuaded the local government to give tax dollars to finish it. When the park was being built, it won more than $18 million in tax incentives from the state, which outraged numerous groups, including The Freedom From Religion Foundation, because of the prospect of the state government interacting with a religious project.

It’s failing miserably financially, of course. The money could've been spent on a number of things, all of them potentially more meaningful than this nonsense by orders of magnitude. It's a total waste of public money... But you could send your thoughts and prayers to them nuts. I'm sure it'll help!

Also... You have to love the part about how they chose a foreign company to insure the access road built by American tax dollars.

And the best part: they're suing their insurance company - but aren't acts of God supposed to not be covered? :-D

See... This is what happens when political extremists forget about those who they claim to care about.

Alabama Senate approves country’s most restrictive abortion ban

"The ban prevents women from seeking abortions by making any abortions a felony for the doctor who performs them, making this different than the so-called “heartbeat” bills that have passed in other states recently, like Georgia. Those bills point to the detection of a fetal heartbeat as the point at which an abortion is banned, but the Alabama ban goes further. The Alabama measure does not provide any exemptions for cases of rape or incest, meaning that the women or children who are victims in those cases would have to carry a pregnancy to term. The only exception allows for abortions in cases where the woman’s health is at risk."

So, no exception for rape. None whatsoever. These idiots are actually forcing victims to carry a child they did not ask for, and worse, punishing the victim by saying we don't care your father raped you, you will carry this demon seed. Because that was a gift from God...

A gift.

Talk about the devil's playground... The devil must actually be sitting back laughing as these fake Christians going hog wild.

So what happened to the separation of church and state, you may ask? That's right. Keep asking.

Religious conservatives lead the nation in search for porn

Though I don't see why anyone should be surprised. The more repressed folks are, the more they will search all that is forbidden.

For the record, as far as I know the Bible never condemns masturbation, concubines, prostitution, lusting after unmarried women, lusting after women in illegitimate marriages, or lusting after women in legitimate marriages to men who are not your "neighbor". I don't see the problem with porn. Maybe this puritanical, anti-human view of sexuality is the reason why so many priests and pastors are utterly perverted sexual deviants.

Baker who refused to make cake for gay wedding: 'I don't discriminate'

Of course you don't. You're just a precious little tolerant oppressed snowflake.

It's beyond me why would anyone be such an asshole and poor business person* not to bake a cake for anyone who wants it? And why would anyone be so weak minded and silly as to let a fairy story rule their life and business? AND why not STEP UP and force bigots out into the open and expose their shameful business practices ruled by zealotry?

* Granted, it's not exactly poor business if your key demographic is religious bigots.

Is there really a way to eradicate this sort of 17th century theocracy from American politics? Do you see that happening within the next century? Or am I being too optimistic?

In 2014, the liberal Zionist organisation J Street conducted a survey among the Jewish community in the US about their opinion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The results showed that 80% of the US Jews support the Two-State scenario, 72% believe East Jerusalem should be the capital of an independent Palestinian state, alongside a sovereign Israel.

Similar results have come from a survey by the conservative Zionist AJC, showing that only 16% support the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, 44% categorically reject such a decision, and 36% believe it could be possibly but only at a later stage, when Israelis and Palestinians have settled in peace with each other.

The backward, retrograde, reactionary legislature of the embarrassment of a state that is Oklahoma, has spoken:

Oklahoma Passes Bill That Would Subject Abortion Doctors to Felony Charges

Some might argue that this is what happens when you put religious extremists in positions of political power, and enable them to craft policies that would affect the life of millions of people. Some might even argue that in the end, it's the voter's responsibility to prevent such people from taking over and calling the shots, and those many voters who haven't turned up to vote these out, bear the same responsibility and guilt as the deluded ones who actually voted for them.

Nice narrative, that. But there might be a problem. )

Why are some Christians protesting the new Starbucks holiday cups?

"Protesters are upset that the cups lack any symbols marking the Christmas holiday. Past holiday cup designs have featured Christmas trees, reindeer, snowmen, poinsettias and other holiday symbols. This year’s holiday cup is simply red, with the Starbucks logo."

Ah. It's mid November, and the good old War on Christmas adage is back in full force. Just when you thought there's not much bullshit left for people to get worked up about.

Clearly, the era of the Antichrist is upon us! )

Supreme Court says Kentucky clerk can't deny same-sex marriage licenses...

Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis in Custody for Contempt of Court Over Same-Sex Marriage Licenses...

Wow, this has escalated quickly.

Obviously, one side says, well done Kim! You're a hero for standing up to those deviate dopes! Civil disobedience is the way! A point should be made to those 3% of the population that they must stop bullying and coercing the other 97%! She believes God's law comes before man's, and she's entitled to her beliefs! Besides, the Constitution was founded on Christian principles! This is a Christian nation! Glory to the Lord!

The other side says, why ain't we surprised at all? Nobody honest and objective would actually buy her dishonest claims and excuses! It's good the courts are still doing their job properly and upholding the law! That's what happens when there's no real precedence for her to be crying about! She should be facing both fines and jail time for official misconduct! Such hate and fear and bigotry! She's on the wrong side of history! This hateful homophobe and her ilk will be left at the dustbin of history!

I may or may not know in advance where most of you stand on this issue, but still, I'd appreciate if you elaborate your preferred position.

First, the incident in a nutshell. A girl of the age of 16 was stabbed at a gay pride march in Jerusalem by an ultra-Orthodox Jew, and then died from her wounds. Another five people were wounded in the assault last Thursday. The perpetrator, Yishai Shlissel, has had a previous track record of similar assaults, having stabbed three people at a similar event back in 2005. Just shortly after he was released after 10 years in jail, he went on another stabbing spree.

Link.

This comes as yet another manifestation of hatred and bigotry gone violent, which the Jewish Orthodox sect in Israel, being just another form of extremist fundamentalism, has been very good at. It's an example of religious ideology doing harm rather than good, fundamentalist extremists turning ideas into deeds, and acting violently on their beliefs.

It is only the tip of the iceberg. )

In the US, in Russia, in East Europe, and of course in the Arab countries and in most of Africa both outright homophobes and lots of ordinary people alike are genuinely convinced that the gays and lesbians are weaving some monstrous plot against humankind. Around the Internet forums that serve not so much as places for sharing information, as much as hubs for spreading ideas and "alternative explanations" of what's going on around the world (read: conspiracy theories), the fundamental features of that conviction are being shaped out.

For many conspiracy theorists, the homosexual people are secretly taking over the key positions around the world, and the recent years must have provided the irrefutable evidence for all that. In politics, in the economy and in sports, i.e. in the Holy Trinity of heterosexual masculinity, innumerable gays seem to have suddenly popped up and stolen the glory of poor oppressed "normal" people. A number of professional male athletes have "come out", and also politicians and top businessmen. Like German football player Thomas Hitzlsperger, recently. And also Apple CEO Tim Cook. And Latvian foreign minister Edgars Rinkevics, the first high-ranking politician in East Europe to openly declare himself gay. That's a unprecedented thing for the post-Soviet space.

Gays are not going away. Deal with it. )
