Prosecutors investigating racism as a motive in deadly attack on Paris Kurds

What saddens me is the general sense of insecurity in France. Such criminality is recurrent and this absolutely takes the biscuit. How this president dares to fly to Qatar and forget his duties which is to keep a hold on criminality is beyond me. How many more crimes? How far can he get away from it?

I'm afraid this rant may offend or perplex some of you but you've got to have lived in France to realize how much insecurity there actually is. That borough of Paris has hecklers on a daily basis. You can no longer take the tube without pickpockets breathing down your neck. Even in other counties such as Normandy the police force is absolutely ineffective at bringing simple crimes such as mobile theft to a halt. It's regular and getting worse.

The north of Paris is full of criminality and this is more than most people can personally take. RIP to the mourning families and all my thoughts are with them. But this has to be addressed, or else there'll be unrest, and this president's days are numbered.

The disaster was terrible - 19 killed children, 2 killed teachers IIRC. Then it got worse.

There was the governor rushing in to get the spotlight to tell the story of the heroic officers. Oops. He later announced he was furious - and no one was disciplined, as the police chief took his city council seat, secretly sworn in apparently illegally.

Then the story started to fall apart. The teacher who left the gate open? Nope. The police chief who confronted the suspect? No, he missed him, went right by and detained a teacher. Saying he hadn't realized he was in charge during the event, and didn't have his radio with him, not knowing what was going on.

Then there were at least 19 officers standing outside the room, for like an hour, while the gunman continued to shoot, with children calling 911. Police weren't doing nothing - they were preventing parents from trying to save their children, which is the best thing they did.

But they just couldn't get the door open for an hour, until finally getting a key.

Except then video showed they never tried the door. And reporting found the door couldn't be locked from the inside.

But the officers explained they didn't have protective gear. Except that video footage shows they did, placed on the ground unused.

And now, one of the shot teachers called her husband - who was an Uvalde police officer, who tried to go save her - and other officers detained him and disarmed him and prevented his going in: LINK

Need I go on? Please don't make me, cuz I'm about to puke now.

When a President said that the Constitution didn’t apply to him and his cult, and encouraged armed insurrection, why wouldn’t we expect copycats?

Massachusetts police ID suspects in armed highway standoff

Did not know about these folks before today. From another source:

"The group, self-identified as the Rise of the Moors, live-streamed its standoff on Saturday on its YouTube page, in which its leader, identified on the group’s website as Jamhal Talib Abdullah Beym, said the group is “not anti-government” and was being “extra careful” not to violate the federal laws of the United States.

Two group members held a Moroccan flag throughout the exchange, a tenet of the Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based group’s ideology. The flag stems from the the largely Black group’s belief that “a 1787 treaty (fictitious) between the United States and Morocco grants them immunity from U.S. law,” according to the Southern Poverty Law Center."

Hmmm. I'm sure the "I don't recognize your laws" will go over well with the judge.

Besides. There is a 1787 treaty with Morocco, the first country that recognized us, but I don’t think it says what they think it says.

Also, the territory they claim they lived in at the time (which they didn't) wasn't part of the US, but would have been part of New France prior to the Louisiana Purchase, so even if there was a treaty between the US & Morocco (which there wasn't), it wouldn't cover them. There would need to have been a treaty between Morocco and the French Republic (which there wasn't), which would have been null & void when Napoleon took over anyhow, and would have been doubly void when the territory was sold to the US.

Oh, and if this group believes it has “immunity from US law,” then why were they being “extra careful to not violate any federal laws of the United States?” Seems like a group of contradictory attention seekers to me.

Backhoe thief drove through Florida town allegedly digging up Biden-Harris campaign signs
"James Blight was arrested in Haines City, Florida, for allegedly stealing a backhoe to dig up the yards and vandalize the homes of people displaying Joe Biden signs."

Yeah well. That'll show'em bloody liburls!

Well now we know Florida Man is a Republican - who would've ever guessed that. James Blight was charged with grand theft auto and trespassing - he should also be charged with destruction of property, drunk driving and reckless endangerment, and probably also with committing a hate crime. Unfortunately, stupidity isn't a crime.

I'm particularly amused by the irony of being a conservative and not respecting private property in the meantime.

It's Florida so realistically, they'll probably charge him with DWI, dismiss the rest, and tell him next time don't drink when you destroy Biden signs. ;-)

That said, it appears Trump fans are getting progressively* frustrated. They must know they're losing.

Who would've thought removing the sign doesn't remove the support. Just like not testing doesn't get rid of the virus.

* See what I did there? Heh.

Here's a scene for you to contemplate. A loud but peaceful protest just across from the White House.

Meanwhile, the president gives a speech on TV, saying he's "allies with peaceful protests".

Next up, police in riot gear meets the protesters, and starts shooting tear gas and rubber bullets at them that can be heard in the White House rose garden. Panic ensues, people start running, rubbing their faces.

Now that the street has been cleared, it transpires what president peaceful-protest-ally's purpose really was. He needed access across the street. He walks past graffiti-covered walls, to reach a historic church nearby, to "pay his respects" and "inspect the damage made by the crowds".

He doesn't use the church for prayer. There's little sense of respect in fact. He gathers some staff (no blacks of course), and just holds a bible for the cameras to see. There aren't many words, but words are not needed. The cameras must clearly see his message to the congregation: "I'm your ally". He's your ally. Not theirs. Not of the "thugs" who just chanted bad words at him from across the street a few minutes ago. He's not their ally. But he's your ally. Or so he claims. But is he really? Whose ally is he really?

https://nationalpost.com/news/world/when-the-looting-starts-the-shooting-starts-trump-threatens-to-answer-riots-with-military-in-minneapolis

Bottom feeding president wanting to shore up his landfill of a presidency goes from taking advantage of a pandemic to lob political mud at blue-state governors to exploiting the epidemic of racist policing in America by attacking the Dem mayor of Minneapolis.

Nazi White supremacists are very fine people, African American protesters are thugs. The more ya know.

Trump succeeded in goading his dumb-as-dirt base to do his political campaign-bidding by foaming at the mouth over masks. Now, he's thrown scrum in the water to watch with delight as his zombies squawk in lily-white self-righteous indignation over protesters who have the bad manners to be outraged over the country's systemic protection of police who murder Black Americans.

He has now backpedaled on all that of course, but which was the sincere output, the one where he threatened to unleash "vicious dogs" and "ominous weapons" onto the protesters (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean), or now?

Poor American brethren of mine... You guys are royally screwed, you know that right?

Four Minnesota police officers fired after death of unarmed black man
Four Minnesota police officers have been fired after the death of a black man who was taken into custody and seen on video being pinned down by his neck.

I don't know how cold-blooded the cop was that he kept his knee on the victim's neck (because that's what Mr Floyd was, a victim) - even though he knew full well his actions would draw publicity as they were seriously threatening the victim's life - and ultimately took it. Did he think about the outcome when people would inevitably release the video footage? Or is the US police really so full of imbeciles?

How can you live after having done a thing like this? Imagine, he comes back home after work and his wife is like,
"How was your day, honey?"
And he's like,
"Oh, it was alright. I killed a person on my duty. Actually, I had a chance not to, but oh well, what's for a dinner, my love?"

And of course the victim was black. There's a whole separate story behind all that, isn't there?

You'd think xenophobia is mostly reserved for white Europeans towards black and brown people from Africa and the Middle East. Well, think again.

Anger in Nigeria as South Africa xenophobic attacks spark looting

Hundreds of Nigerians are taking up the government’s offer to be evacuated from South Africa

Over the last few days, the world has turned its eyes on South Africa, and in particular to Johannesburg, where numerous attacks have been carried out on foreigners or people born in South Africa whose parents were immigrants, burning their shops and destroying their property. So far, at least ten people have been killed, hundreds injured, and the total damage to businesses that have been destroyed is yet to be calculated.

Neil deGrasse Tyson apologized yesterday following a tweet Sunday deemed “insensitive” about the weekend mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton that sparked a fierce reaction on social media, but not everyone is accepting his apology.

He tweeted out some statistics on Sunday that didn’t go over as well as he planned. While telling us that far more people die from things like the flu or medical errors, he appeared to downplay the significance of the problems with mass shootings. He later apologized for the tweet, but the damage had already been done at that point.

While he may technically have a point about statistics, human life isn't solely governed by statistics. His intentions may've been good (as always), but yeah, he misspoke in this case. What I have noticed with highly intelligent people is that their perception of a situation can be a little different than what the average IQ'd person experiences. People like Tyson see everything in terms of data, scientifically driven... and often lack the emotional intelligence, which may be just as important than intellectual one.

In a nutshell, the flu doesn’t commit pre-meditated murder based on the victim’s language or skin color. The flu is more humane than Trump and his storm troopers. By downplaying the impact of the hate rhetoric spewed by Trump from day one, and the resulting race-based violence in US society, Neil is not helping tackle this problem. I love the guy with a passion, but in this case he was wrong.

"Hatred has no place in our country", Trump said in the wake of the two mass shootings (were they #195341 and #195342 for the US already?)

Hmmm. Interesting. Well, if you do believe hatred has no place in your country, STOP FUCKING SPREADING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

The guy who shot all those (mostly brown) people in El Paso explicitly wrote in his manifesto that he was following the example of the Christchurch shooter in New Zealand, who was a sick racist trying to "cleanse" the place from migrants. This one was subscribing to a particularly vile conspiracy that's been circulating the Internet as of late, claiming the black, brown and generally non-white people are going to "replace" whites as the dominant race. So he acted upon his beliefs.

A previous recent shooter had also cited Christchurch as his inspiration.

Are we not noticing a pattern here yet?

By the way, where was Trump after Daton? The same place where he was now after El Paso. Nowhere to be seen for half a day. And where did he put the blame for the violence? As one might have easily expected. Nowhere near where it really is. He blamed it on mental issues. No word about loose gun control, no word about the racial hatred HE HAS HELPED SPREAD.

This is only going to get worse, folks.

If G.O.P. Loses Hold on Congress, Trump Warns, Democrats Will Enact Change ‘Quickly and Violently’

..."Mr. Trump acknowledged to the evangelical leadership that his conservative base may not turn out at the polls in big numbers for Republican congressional candidates because he is not on the ballot in November."

Dear President Trump,

I think, Sir, that you are absolutely correct. Voters may not turn out to support Republican candidates if you aren't on the ballot. I think, to help the Republican party, you should demand that Congress reduce your term of office to two years so you can be up for reelection this fall and truly help make America great again. Again.

Don't let anyone tell you that you might not get re-elected. No Democrats would be running. And given the choice between you and no one, the choice for all sensible Americans is clear.

Sincerely,
Someone who totally wants to vote for you this fall. Yep.

Ps. Oh, and don't be scared of all that violence. I'm sure your folks can handle it. They're so good with guns, after all.

I know I'm probably gonna cause yet another shitstorm by bringing this up now, as this subject is among the Unholy Triad of no-no topics (along with Abortion and Race), but still. It's Charts & Graphs month, and I recently came across this, so I thought, what the hell! Let's have another go, shall we.

Interesting overview here of America's gun violence... question? Issue? Problem? Er...., thing? I don't know if you'd recognize it as a problem at this point, I've heard all sorts of things about it after all. It's a cultural thing, mostly (says one group). It's not as bad as it used to be (as if that's supposed to be a consolation). The current laws are just fine, we need better enforcement. And also: YOU'LL PRY MY GUNS FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS DAMMIT! America aw hell yea. You know, those sort of argument.

Oh, and also: Guns don't kill people. Bad people with guns kill people. We've heard that.

So let us look at the data then )

Trump Signs Bill Revoking Obama-Era Gun Checks for People With Mental Illnesses

And this, in the wake of yet another mass shooting at a school (I know, I know, "now is not the right time to discuss this").

Trump blamed the tragedy on "a mental health problem", a tactic straight out of the gun lobby's playbook. But then he went on to remove the background checks on mental health.

Actually he started making it easier for mentally ill people to get guns as early as February 2017, when he undid a relevant regulation, so now the Social Security Administration is no longer required to submit the names of certain mentally disabled beneficiaries to a federal agency that conducts gun background checks.

Does not compute. Like nothing the Asshole-In-Chief does.

But of course, it's STILL not the time to talk about these things. And never will be.

Brawling in parliament is a bomb that goes off in the world of media more often than you might think. Or at least that happens in places where parties really do have something to quarrel over, rather than being in cahoots with each other (not in my place, though).

Turns out, this specific type of mass brawl appears in all sorts of flavors in the various countries. So here's a short overview of the parliamentary form of aggression and its ethnographic peculiarities.

Seven examples from around the world )

I know, some of you would say, but look at the wave of revelations, so many famous women have now come out about the horrible way they were treated by this producer! His reputation has been ruined, and so has his career... Other cases of sex abuse have surfaced, Kevin Spacey was removed from House of Cards when a former male colleague from 20 years ago told the story about what Kev did to him, etc. The #metoo movement has been growing, people from all around the world are sharing numerous stories of sex abuse. Tons of analyses have been written on the subject, and this is still just the tip of the iceberg, the whole picture is yet to be revealed.

If you think that mansplaining about "not assault weapons" and "assault weapons" in light of today's events in Las Vegas is going to be helpful in discussing the huge gun violence problem the USA has, you are the problem.

50+ dead, 400+ taken to hospitals.

Save us all the wisdom you need to share about the bullshit you believe.

This is how these guys handle everything - by dragging us out into the weeds of the mansplains rather than actually addressing the issues.

Don't be a dick.
