Now that the Tea Party has taken the plunge to support racism in Arizona, the Party will have the obligatory split over policy. I see a division into two distinct Tea Parties: one of them based on black tea and the other based on green tea. The black Tea Party would continue to support racism (black represents the color of their heart). The green Tea Party will favor a more rational, natural approach to immigration.

What is your opinion of these two parties within the Party? Which other policy divisions can we look forward to?

Former Representative Tom Tancredo said in his Tea Party convention speech on March 4 that America did not need “a cult of multiculturalism.” He added, “…something really odd happened, mostly because we do not have a civics literacy test before people can vote in this country. People who could not spell the word ‘vote’ or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House – his name is Barack Hussein Obama.”

For example, "official English" made a strong showing in the "Contract from America," a document being prepared online with input from Tea Partiers nationwide. The contract will signal the Tea Party movement's policy priorities ahead of the 2010 midterm elections.

and if we attribute any idiotic remark by a perceived leader of a given political party to all their followers, oh what fun we shall have.

I take the above as there being no hard numbers and your claims of vast majorities which are kinda the foundation of the whole argument being nothing but assumptions again.

that's nice dear. guncontrol makes a strong showing in democrat documents all the time but there is no ban in sight. also, no numbers. or actual link from how an official language is racist.

And if you are going to seriously claim that most people in the tea party don't think the US should have English as the official language-- you're going to need to back that up, becuase it is a wild claim. Show me some people speaking out against it, some people who call it bigoted or racist.

Just a question; I know Canada has 2 official languages, but don't most countries have AN official language?

So. America is better than countries that have an official language. It's what makes us unique and great. Many countries also have other laws that don't jibe with American notions of freedom. Everyone else is doing it isn't a very good reason.

Hmm, did I imply that? I don't think so. I capitalized AN for emphasis so you would understand what I meant.

I do find it interesting that you think not having an official language is what makes this country unique and great, but then I'm thinking you were just using hyperbole.

For the record I don't particularly care if we make English the official language or not, it is. Personally I wouldn't even move to New York and expect people to understand me, much less immigrate to a foreign country to live and expect them to understand me.

In Calif. where we have 7-11% illegals in our population (2 1/2-4 million, depending on who's statistics you believe) (altho I swear most of them live near me, so it seems like more) we print our ballots in English and Spanish, which is actually a bit rude since there are some 76 different languages spoken in California, but I think that has to do with the treaty when we became a Republic.

LOL you are the one starting out with wild claims of "majority" "vast majority" "many", can't back up any of that with facts and numbers yet I should now prove the opposite of your claims with the numbers you can't provide yourself? I made no claims, I questioned yours given that it all looks like a huge assumption on your part. So far your replies have backed my suspicion.

As for the latest of your bigoted assumptions: what I do doubt and assume myself is that a preference for english being the official language of the US is limited to the teaparty but instead an opinion shared by the majority of US citizens. Unlike you I won't run around passing that assumption out as fact or base an argument on it which condemns a minority like the teaprty to be racists, nazis or what have you.

Show me where I claimed that the vast majority of tea party people support English only laws. Oh wait! that was you making that bullshit claim! So where are the numbers? I bet a beer they won't be coming and instead we'll get another retarded reply like the one you just wrote, am I right?

Tancredo has very little clout outside of the nutters that happen to agree with him. He has been spouting off crap that people in Colorado stopped listening to years ago.
