Yep, I'm speaking of a whole chunk of the political establishment, and beyond.
GOP Tells Obama to Ignore Congress One Day After Suing Him for Ignoring Congress
"On Wednesday, House Republicans sued President Obama for acting on his own without approval from Congress. On Thursday, House Republicans told President Obama he should act on his own to fix the border crisis."
Really, what better proof that Boehner and his cohorts are a heap of lying pieces of shit with no moral standards of their own? My hypocrite-meter has just exploded.

Are those guys demented, or so out of touch, or just they don't give a flying bird's dropping about how they're being perceived by the public any more? And why would they care, since they keep getting elected into Conress anyway.
Meanwhile, here are some pieces of food for thought for the teahadist segment of the audience.
Detention: No Place for Children or Families
On the Border, Who Gets to Be a Refugee?
Convention relating to the Status of Refugees
Where did the meme of helping thy neighbor suddenly go? Didn't Jesus say to not do to others what you wouldn't want to be done to you? Do international human rights conventions count for anything to those people, or is the jingoist "don't meddle in our domestic stuff" really trump the "we're the greatest nation on Earth, paragon of freedom" meme at this point, no matter what?
And as a dessert to this pile of stinking carrion, there's this...
The KKK Wants a ‘Shoot to Kill’ Policy to Include Migrant Children
Btw, Robert Jones, "KKK Imperial Wizard"? WTF!?
That is the Imperial Wizard that's going to save the superior race from dangerous Guatemalan children who need to be shot to get rid of? -->

So much with the "nation of builders", Boehner.

Date: 6/8/14 08:18 (UTC)Face it, importing shit-tonnes of cheap labor into a market were competition for entry-level jobs is already fierce is not going to win you many friends but but Obama is banking on the assumption that brown people will always vote "D" and that the GOP will be too dumb or chicken-shit to call them on it.
ETA:
These are NOT simple refugees seeking asylum, if they were they wouldn't be in country ILLEGALLY.

Date: 6/8/14 08:31 (UTC)Sure they aren't simple refugees. Most of them are kids urgently fleeing the gang wars at home. Gang wars that have largely been triggered by the rampant drug trade in those same states that are now denying them entry, and conducted by former gangsters who've been deported to those same countries, and thus transferred the US gang culture into Central America. How dare those kids want to continue to live. Ironically, they're fleeing from the mirror crime culture of their home countries, straight into the very place of its origin.
Don't know how unpopular amnesty is in the border states (and who says amnesty should be the only solution to that problem anyway, as opposed to having a comprehensive road map to citizenship) - but all those employees who've been keeping illegal foreign workers for substinence pay as if those were modern-day slaves, don't seem to be hurting a lot from their presence in their businesses, do they.
And then there's this bottom-line. By legalizing the illegal, wouldn't you be adding a major source of income for the federal and state budgets (via taxing and regulating their job activities)? Indeed, food for thought for the teahadist lot - if they had a brain to work it out with, that is.

So are the "teahadists" like me evil extremists because we want to end the drug war, evil because we oppose amnesty, or both?

I think you mean employers not employees, and who do you think funds re-election efforts?
Should I link a picture of a prominent Democrat shaking hands with a member of Hamas or making nicey-nice with communists and genocidal dictators to show you just how little respect I have for this sort of bullshit?

Date: 6/8/14 11:37 (UTC)You can show me as many red herrings as you like, that still won't make the problem that we're discussing magically puff out of existence.
Evil? Who said anything about evil, let alone who was speaking about you? Evil for wanting to end the drug war? That's a strawman. No one has argued this, certainly I haven't. Or are you again just making fallacious arguments solely for the sake of arguing?
If you oppose amnesty, please provide an alternative. No one has argued that amnesty is the best solution. If you have a better one, do be sure to put it forward. In fewer words, stop being a supporter of the "no to everything" stance and offer something constructive, because this situation, as it is, will not just go away if you bury your head in the sand.

Quit being simplistic.

Date: 6/8/14 16:46 (UTC)2: Bush also pushed voter ID laws and means-testing for government assistance. Things that I specifically cited as necessary to make amnesty workable in our current political climate (http://talk-politics.livejournal.com/1892356.html?thread=147409668#t147409668).
Quit being simplistic. :P

Why are political conservatives (in general, not necessarily you) so adamant about allowing the free flow of capital, but so vociferous about preventing the free flow of labor?

Date: 7/8/14 16:14 (UTC)The other side as I've stated before is the franchise/benefit issue. If you open the border to anyone you have to start taking steps elsewhere. Do these people pay taxes? do we them to vote? do they receive social security? do they go to public schools? etc...

Date: 6/8/14 23:39 (UTC)Mexico ships them directly to our border by train, so we then put them on planes to one of the (apparently many, from comments here) countries who would welcome them with open arms.
Bonuses: They would not be competing for slave labor wages with illegal Mexican labor.
They won't suffer self esteem problems from having to be somewhere they are not wanted.
They won't displace people who have been waiting up to ten years to be able to immigrate legally.

Date: 8/8/14 00:17 (UTC)Seriously, I'm actually torn on this. (altho not as much when I saw pictures of 12-18 year old boys with gang tats that were being included in the number of "unaccompanied children") I actually supported amnesty last time, to the extent of helping a couple of people get to the right place to fill out the right papers. After all it was only a smidgin over a million people that actually applied (iirc). However, in a complete support of "unintended consequences" in less than 20 years there were an estimated 11 million NEW undocumented immigrants. Of course to be fair, we don't KNOW they all came here hoping for another amnesty.
I am curious as how "unaccompanied children as young as three years old" make it from El Salvador to cross the American border? I understand that the actual numbers of unaccompanied and family groups was released a few weeks ago over a weekend by Immigration, but I haven't been able to track it down.
They are shutting down the Pt Magu facility which housed approx 276 of the first wave. Strangely enough, even reading the Ventura Cty paper cover to cover many times over the past few weeks I seemed to have missed what is to be the fate of those children.
Sigh, it's ,uch easier to be generous and welcoming when someone else is dealing with consequences.
