Yep, I'm speaking of a whole chunk of the political establishment, and beyond.

GOP Tells Obama to Ignore Congress One Day After Suing Him for Ignoring Congress
"On Wednesday, House Republicans sued President Obama for acting on his own without approval from Congress. On Thursday, House Republicans told President Obama he should act on his own to fix the border crisis."

Really, what better proof that Boehner and his cohorts are a heap of lying pieces of shit with no moral standards of their own? My hypocrite-meter has just exploded.

Are those guys demented, or so out of touch, or just they don't give a flying bird's dropping about how they're being perceived by the public any more? And why would they care, since they keep getting elected into Conress anyway.

Meanwhile, here are some pieces of food for thought for the teahadist segment of the audience.

Detention: No Place for Children or Families

On the Border, Who Gets to Be a Refugee?

Convention relating to the Status of Refugees

Where did the meme of helping thy neighbor suddenly go? Didn't Jesus say to not do to others what you wouldn't want to be done to you? Do international human rights conventions count for anything to those people, or is the jingoist "don't meddle in our domestic stuff" really trump the "we're the greatest nation on Earth, paragon of freedom" meme at this point, no matter what?

And as a dessert to this pile of stinking carrion, there's this...

The KKK Wants a ‘Shoot to Kill’ Policy to Include Migrant Children

Btw, Robert Jones, "KKK Imperial Wizard"? WTF!?

That is the Imperial Wizard that's going to save the superior race from dangerous Guatemalan children who need to be shot to get rid of? -->

So much with the "nation of builders", Boehner.

1) That labor is already here, has been, will continue to be here. Those 11 million plus people are busy working under the table. It's ridiculous to be rigid about amnesty when everyone knows that the immigration system is a farce. It's a good $10,000 just to get the ball rolling on that. People subsisting on fruit picking or day labor aren't going to front that for a lawyer to get a decade-plus long process started.

2) Voter ID laws are about disenfranchising, there's a reason Republicans are the only ones pushing them. It's a solution for a problem that the evidence shows doesn't exist.

3) The GOP could demonstrate the courage of their convictions by pushing for mass deportations. But like immigration reform, they'd rather do nothing and just blame the President. Maybe send some National Guard troops to the border. Because threatening to shoot children seems like a good idea to someone.

1) And if we offer blanket amnesty will the current infux slow or will it accelerate? Likewise once they're legal, they're here to stay. If the Democrats really wanted to do something constructive about unemployment and income inequality they'd be cracking down on these employers or otherwise incentivizing the hiring of "on the books" labor. Obviously they do not.

2) I disagree, though if it is your position that idiots and illegals vote Democrat I wont try to argue.

3) What do you think this is all about? Public opinion among voters is skewed pretty heavily towards deportation (1 (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/july_2014/most_voters_want_to_send_latest_illegal_immigrants_home_asap), 2 (http://www.people-press.org/2014/07/16/surge-of-central-american-children-roils-u-s-immigration-debate/)).

Sadly congress critters are spineless and water is wet.

This comment is completely uncalled for - it's the sort of rude bullshit that has me participating less and less in this community. Pointless and offensive.

Don't dish it if you can't take it.

If you are going to argue that obtaining and showing valid state ID is too high a bar to meet, it is clear that you have a very low opinion of the voters in question.

I didn't dish, you merely took an opportunity to make the sort of generalized slur that kills any decent debate. If you wanted to reinforce that you personally are an asshole, point made.

Plenty of people operate in this country without state-issued ID, mainly minorities, the elderly and young people. It's strangely contrary that conservatives who are always up in arms about the intrusion of the state, to go out of their way to force people to obtain state-issued ID in order to exercise a basic right. Voter fraud isn't a demonstrable problem.

I will stay, if just for that. And I do enjoy the perspectives from places other than the American right and their belligerence.

I did have to walk away from this post. I gave him the chance to walk his comments back to no effect. I don't know what that PM contained, but in the real world those sort of comments to me get a harsher response.

We require ID to work, and freedom of association and the need to support oneself, are far more fundamental and have far less external impact than the right to vote. Do you consider that to be an undue burden as well?

Explain to me your reasoning for thinking that requiring ID is an undue burden for some and not others.

Thousands (tens of thousands? hundreds of thousands?) of businesses across the country hire hundreds of thousands (millions? tens of millions?) of workers without ID. They know the tyranny of the federal government in requiring ID to work is an unnecessary and costly burden. The market has spoken.

Asking as a small business owner, citation needed.

I can hire someone for a day without asking for id and get away with it. However what I question is you implied comment that so many people are hired to work as a regular employee with no id...Please note I will grant that there is a lot of fake id but id nevertheless... Hence (for example) a good friend who got a hefty tax bill (complete with penalties) for not declaring his deceased wife's income; someone had used her SS number.

Which is more likely, every single undocumented immigrant in the country (all 12 million of them) knows of an ID and SSN forgery service, or that a much smaller number of businesses with little oversight (and lots of lobbying power, in the case of the agriculture industry) don't feel the need to check for the credentials of the people who pick their crops and hammer their nails and wash their dishes and clean their homes? Remember that these businesses are under pressure from their legal citizen customers to lower prices at any cost, even if it means hiring a worker of shady provenance when it's expedient.

Less the hyperbole, there is much truth in what you write.

However, it is amazingly simple to get counterfeit ids*, ant not withstanding the (never put in place) e-verify; as a business owner I am not required to be able to tell the difference. When I was in college I supported myself washing dishes (not very well I admit) I still hammer my own nails (because I can't afford to hire enough other people to do it for me, and I am in a position I can be high minded and NOT hire illegals cheaper). I have met quite a few "legal citizen customers" who will no longer use undocumented, un licensed, or non-insured workers any more no matter how low the price ;). The real bottom line is that "one size does not fit all" .
I have a friend in a small town in Kansas that knows exactly one illega alien family, the husband is such a great worker and is constantly busy and my friend can't understand what the illegal hub-bub is all about. Heck I have more than that living in one house across the street. My Yard/shop is on the border of two hispanic gangs...Alabama St gang, which is about 90% "legal" and an MS13 group which is perhaps 50% legal. All I am saying is that where one lives and works shapes one's perception of the "undocumented problem" cuz trust me, no matter how low slave wages we pay our illegals, it still cost more to live here (in So Cal) than most other places.

Do I have answers, not really, but I do know that not enforcing the laws only makes matters worse.

* A few years ago my brother-in-law was doing a documentary on the proliferation of forged documents. They outfitted their "stealth van" and headed down to Mac Arthur Park. They needn't have bothered; the sellers were literally hawking them on the street corners, and willingly gave interviews.
