I cannot understand this whole SNAP debacle that is being played out and talked about. I do not understand how ANYONE can be against feeding the hungry. I am willing to concede that there will be waste and fraud. I cannot imagine what system(s) would not have *some* waste and fraud. That said, waste and fraud are bad, but, let's not go throwing the baby out with the bath water, eh?

Food is NOT an option for people. Neither is water. These two things are HUMAN RIGHTS as far as I am concerned. Nobody, anywhere, should be deprived of access to food and water. And you know what, these things, in their most basic form (ie. basic food staples, not fancy food feasts), should be free. That's right, free. For *every single person*.

I understand that to some cold-hearted demons out there, people only deserve food and water if they *work* for it. Well fuck that. Work is not the pre-requisite, IMO, for food or water. Those should be denied to NOBODY.

I have a question to ask folks here, and I'm not sure I will be able to stomach the responses, but here goes:

Under what circumstances should a hungry person be denied food/water?

No where in the video at the 2:10 mark does he say he is wanting to kill poor people or deny them, just that food and water have a value. You can take the worst position (which you invariably do), and assume that he is happily twisting his mustache as he dangles a gallon of water over parched poor people, only to give it up when the first one grovels enough to satisfy his fetish.

It's no more the "worst position" to point out that many people will engage in often lethal price-gouging if they are allowed to do it than it is the "worst position" to point out that many people will murder and steal if they are allowed to do it.

I've already mentioned the case in South Africa where, after the water system was privatized, the poor were reduced to drinking from ditches. The result was a cholera epidemic.

Actually, I just poured myself a cup of free water from the tap. So not only are you wrong, you are advocating something that is about as morally unjustifiable as it gets.

Not for cold water from the tap. Hot water has to get heated, and that comes with the heat bill, but no water bill for me.

Now, it's true, maybe the landlord has some water-bill, but I know that I do not. I pay rent (which is too damn high!) and with that rent I get as much free tap-water as I could possibly want.

I am pretty certain I could leave my faucet on 24/7 and not pay an extra penny.

You'd need to ask landlords in NYC if they get a water bill; I am not one, so I cannot answer if they get a bill.

Many apartments don't have separate meters. I can't recall ever living in an apartment that didn't have water included. About half that I lived in didn't even have separate meters for electricity, so that was included in the rent also.

According to the CEO's math they have 1.5M employees, he assumes each employee supports another 1-2 people, so there are some 4.5 million (his math) people that depend on Nestle.

4.5 million < 6 billion

The social responsibility is SOCIAL and not limited to your employee network. Fucking over 100 million people to support 4.5 million people is NOT SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

The CEO does not understand that his corporate world is not in fact, the entire world.

Keeping the company afloat is the CEO's biggest responsibility, TO THE COMPANY--NOT to society. Biggest responsibility to society is to be a benevolent and beneficent organization.

Can't say I'm surprised. I for one haven' forgotten what Nestle did with baby formula back in the 1970s. Yes, touting it as superior to breast milk and giving it away free to mothers in poor countries - and then when the mothers' own milk dried up, they jacked up the prices. 

Nestle operates in Bizzaro World where the exploitation of the poor and the starvation of infants is a social responsibility. Well Done.
