While I generally disagree with his politics I think Mr. Savage raises an excellent point.
Now consider this...
Bill Maher and NYT's David Carr the "Middle Places" and "Low-Sloping Foreheads".
I apologise for linking as I seem to be having trouble embedding the video.
Now I would assume that both men in the second video consider themselves to be reasonably intelligent and enlightened men. If accused of being racist or bigoted I would imagine that they would be properly offended.
Which is why I'm going to ask an uncomfortable question, why is it ok to disparage one socio-political/ethnic class as stupid, dangerous, useless, ect... but not another. Would his comments have been more or less offensive had he been talking about "Fags" "Twats" "Spics" "Wops" "Chinks" or *Gasp* "N*ggers"?

Date: 8/7/11 04:37 (UTC)Except everyone on the show, including the guy who said it just after he said it: "did I say that out loud". He knew it was a faux pas at the very least. I'm sure he got lambasted on Fox about it as well, if not then that's not the "liberal media bias" it's Fox not being as good at their job as John Stewart is. If the media isn't keeping liberals honest then the blame falls squarely on Fox's shoulders, because that's their reason for being. When we can see real bias that only fox reports we'll talk about MSM liberal bias (but I haven't seen that so far...).
Then there's you, you've lifted an eyebrow, it's caused discussion here and there seems to be interest and concern around what was said. I think your outrage comes far more from confirmation bias than reality.
But then there's the final point and that's one of perception also. I saw this as an attack on Kansas for consistently elected morons to office who do stupid things and say things that makes one think they are moderately mentally disabled. As an outsider, that seems to be a pretty fair assessment of Kansas, even if I ignore what opinion makers say about them and just consider the kinds of bills that pop up to be voted on in their state congress, the place is clearly full of idiots.
