[identity profile] johnny9fingers.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] talkpolitics

Well, the time has come for a self-administered beating.

Was bad enough. But then I followed it up with this:

Now, thanks to this:

I have to admit I've got a lot of egg on my face. I'm going to ask [livejournal.com profile] htpcl 's possum to lick it off me. Have any of the rest of the folk on here got things that upon reflection, or with subsequent information, wished they hadn't written; or positions they wish they hadn't backed?

We defend our points based on the information that we got, and when sifted through the prism of our perceptions and convictions. That's not wrong.

The question is how prepared we are to accept the possibility that there could be other facts out there that could possibly shed more light on the matter we're discussing, and if we're someone who's ready to make amendments in our position when faced with those facts. Or instead, are we perhaps someone who'd rather just cement their position further out of sheer stubbornness.

The very fact that you've put this issue for discussion shows which of the two you are.

And would say a lot, if not most, people do exactly that.

You promised not to tell the press before we've secured the copyright for our story! You said we could make a lot of money if we sell the movie script, didn't you? Damn! Now we're in for a rip-off.

If we're to regret having held positions and views in the past then we'd probably quit having an opinion at some point. So I prefer to rather be prepared to do mistakes in my judgment if that's the price to pay for searching and learning new things all the time, and getting my only two brain cells ticking in the process. So I don't regret being constantly wrong. What I'm scared of is to not become intellectually lazy and start taking things for granted without putting them to the test of my own skepticism.

And my possum loves egg!

Yeah but don't tell me now that you didn't smirk secretly to yourself when you saw yourself proven right in this story! :)

A ridiculous character (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH7JVxMcY9s) from a popular TV show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavi%27s_Show) here. Symbolizes the typical village idiot.

Caption says: "Hey, where's my bro?"

Most of these icons are with TV comedic characters.

Plenty of times. I've been wrong and I've sometimes said the wrong thing or ignorant things (not always the same thing but often the two are).

I'm not afraid to make a fool of myself... as some of you may have noticed.
