Ah, but the Tea Party is entirely about fiscal issues. There is no racism in the Tea Party, nor does it give two shakes' of a rat's ass about "social conservatism."

As usual, reality intrudes and says something different:

That would include, the documents say, that “the Constitution created a Republic, not a Democracy.”

The material calls for lawmakers to amend state laws governing school curriculums, and for textbook selection criteria to say that “No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership.”

Fayette County attorney Hal Rounds, the group’s lead spokesman during the news conference, said the group wants to address “an awful lot of made-up criticism about, for instance, the founders intruding on the Indians or having slaves or being hypocrites in one way or another.

“The thing we need to focus on about the founders is that, given the social structure of their time, they were revolutionaries who brought liberty into a world where it hadn’t existed, to everybody — not all equally instantly — and it was their progress that we need to look at,” said Rounds, whose website identifies him as a Vietnam War veteran of the Air Force and FedEx retiree who became a lawyer in 1995

Made-up criticisms that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Ben Franklin, James Monroe and they all owned slaves? Pretending Manifest Destiny never happened? Deleting minorities from the history books?

For that matter the Founders were not revolutionaries. They wanted a country in control of its own trade, which is not the same as say, that minor unpleasantness in France that triggered the Great French War.

These guys seem hell-bent on proving that they are indeed the spirit of 1877 back again. I didn't like this band the first time, and I don't think I like the new stuff either.

So Tennessee Tea Parties = "The Tea Party?"

Oyg. This is one of the standard responses whenever some teabagging moron does something absolutely idiotic. "Well, he's not part of "MY" tea-party"

Either own up to what the jackasses amongst you do, or split up and identify yourself with a new moniker that isn't shared amongst the jackassery.

If it's a movement that's nationwide, you cannot suddenly individuate it all when there's a clear sign of wingnuttery and dickholery from members of the movement.

Yeah, well, I knew Jeff lacked those quite awhile ago. But calling people on their crap is important, nonetheless.

First, I'm not a Tea Party guy. Second, if you're going to say "teabaggers," you aren't gonna get far with anyone other than yourself.

You seriously underestimate how tremendously unimportant I think your thoughts are.

You'd be wrong on that. But I'll continue to treat you as if you do care.

They sort of have a point there, but they surround it with mounds of bullshit.

“an awful lot of made-up criticism about, for instance, the founders intruding on the Indians or having slaves or being hypocrites in one way or another.

"Intruding".

That's the most awesome understatement ever.

They landed in their big ships and said "Pardon me, do you mind if we play through?" Really it was just a big game of Calvinball gone wrong.

Ah, the blessings of civilization!

The best was when the Spanish showed the Aztecs the error of their bloody religion, replacing it with...

oh, hell, never mind.

Pretty soon they're going to want to airbrush out Democratic presidents from the history books. 1976-1980? There was no president. It was a bad time.

What the shit? Why can't some people accept that we came over here, deliberately kicked the Native Americans in the head and took their shit? That's what people did back then. It's how you colonized places. With the cunning use of flags.

I mean, come on. It was the standard of the friggin' times.

Spirit of what?

What is the spirit of 1877? Does it have something to do with the Klan?
