Europe is experiencing the biggest refugee crisis since World War II. Based on data from the United Nations, here's a clarification of the scale of the crisis.

The map under the link here shows the flow of asylum seekers to European countries over time.

Each moving point on the map represents 25 people. That corresponds to approximately one busload with every other seat taken.

You can hover over countries to show details, or click on a country to lock the selection. The counts shown on hover represent the number of people who have left or arrived in a country since 2012.

The line chart displays the total rate of asylum seekers over time. Hover over the chart to move the map in time.
