I've also grown up with cats, and he is the first. If I put on my crazy cat lady hat, I have the following theories:
1. He spent his first two weeks in the bathroom, while my other cat acclimated to the idea of sharing the house. The bathroom has always been his 'safe zone'.
2. His temperament is very much that of a puppy, which is a first. I've always had aloof hunter females, or laid back cuddly males. He doesn't have a hunters instinct, but he always wants to play. He is currently chasing a bottlecap that he keeps kicking a few inches to keep it moving.
2a. Possibly related, he has no depth perception. So he's not good at hunting, but instead loves the continual movement.
