What does the panel think the odds of Julian Assange either keeping out of jail, or even living to a ripe old age have now become?

I used to be a betting man....incipient fatherhood has rather blunted my taste for such things, but I reckon that Assange chappie has made an awful lot of enemies and really ought to tread very carefully from now on. The US has supported the PKK, and Turkey has supported Al Qaeda in Iraq. Blimey, there's an awful lot of stuff going on that seems so counter-intuitive as to be off-planet.

Why, all that looks pretty intuitive to me. When you think about it.

No surprises here.

I mean, I think we all have a nagging suspicion that such things go on, but it's simple impolitic to say so out loud without evidence.

Oh good. This time they're prepared for the poopstorm that's coming. So they're taking what precautions? -- Putting sunglasses on and turning to the right direction so at least they could get a good view while the poop is raining on them. ;-)

This has now become way bigger than Julian Assange. Whether he will live, or remain outside bars, is now irrelevant.

There is a version of CIA-controlled activities of Assange in the air. It looks pretty probable to me.

Anecdata time:

This reminds me of a politician here who used to be of an obscure party, until he suddenly started serving huge amounts of intel to the wide public that embarrassed the major parties. At some point I was beginning to wonder: but how could this moron know so much, and in such detail?

Then it turned out a former top secret security guy had been pulling his strings, and using him as a mouthpiece to tilt the political relations in the country for his own purposes. That former agent is now openly planning to get involved in politics, and guess which party he has joined for that purpose? Of course, the previously obscure, now turned famous party of the first guy. He used him as a portal into politics.

No info ever gets served without a price.

Ah, the beautiful world of backstage diplomacy.

Just imagine the conversation.

US: Dude, pick up the phone, its urgent! I've got something to tell you. Like, NOW!
Turkey: (yawn) Ehhhh. What is it now! You know what time it is?
US: That idiot is doing it again.
Turkey: What idiot.
US: It's the hacker, dude! He's gonna tell some very bad things about us two.
Turkey: What things.
US: He's gonna tell everyone what i did to you last summer.
Turkey: What.
US: He'll say some really bad stuff. He'll say I'm supporting PKK.
Turkey: Wat......
US: He's a real pain in the ass. We should do something.
Turkey: Wait, you did WHAT??
US: He's going too far, that guy...
Israel: Dude, the guy asked you something.
Turkey. Yeah! Did YOU pay PKK to kill my citizens!?
Israel: Yeah. Answer him!
US: (to Turkey) You stay silent! He knows stuff about you too.
Turkey: What stuff.
US: He'll also say that you're supporting Al Qaeda in Iraq, and...
Turkey: Gosh! That guy is really bad. Something should be done about him...
Israel: How can he say such things?
US: (to Turkey) So did YOU pay Al Qaeda to kill my troops?
Turkey: And why did you support PKK?
US: Why did YOU support Al Qaeda?
Israel: Oh, stop it!
US: (to Israel) You keep silent. He's gonna say some things about you, too.
Israel: Gosh! Is there a way something, anything, could be done about that guy???
Turkey: Yeah... Is there?
US: Well...
Somewhere in the distance, Al Qaeda: Muhahahaha!

Also, I wonder how many times a day the Leon Panetta and the Joint Chiefs of Staff call up Obama and ask him to sign an assassination order.

Well looks like they went the discredit him route instead of just killing him.

Not really. What *would* be counter-intuitive would be the USA backing say, a latter-day Tudeh against the Islamic Republic.

On the other hand, note that it simply refers to the USA backing the PKK and the Turks AQII. It never says who they backed against whom.

I also wonder if he's being a bit reckless these days. When will one of these leaks cause a conflict or cause efforts to end a conflict to fail? There is some stuff that should be classified.

I'm sorry to hear that.
Glen Beck is intense. Intensely stupid and wrong. But still.
From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/aviation_/
hahahahahahaha but he LOUDLY OBNOXIOUSLY INTENSE; it is a different thing.
