A thought on the 2012 Presidential and Congressional election:

I was just reflecting on something that I *haven't* heard in coverage of a potential 2012 Presidential and Congressional election. This year the Census will mean that across the USA redistricting will have been accomplished by the election of the 112th Congress in 2012. Depending on how that ends up that will mean that the House of Representatives will be potentially different though just how awaits the conclusion of that. My guess is that as with the usual if Jesus came down from heaven to say the current President was 99% evil Pat Robertson would attack Jesus for admitting President Obama is 1% good rhetoric from the teabaggers they will claim results that displease their movement are a result of a government conspiracy to weaken "the opposition".

For the Democrats themselves the re-districting would be complicated if it throws up more Blue Dogs and LaRouchites who may for reasons of their own start siding with the Teabaggers if the next two years of this administration follow the course of the first two. As this President needs someone to put the fear of God in his party to get it to at least agree on something where Republicans behave like an organized, civilized European party in terms of party discipline (which is why despite being a minority from 2006 onwards the Democrats have been at every step blocked as when you've five squabbling people from Lord of the Flies against three well-trained street fighters from In the Presence of Mine Enemies the street fighters are gonna win).

So why is nobody pointing out this elephant in the room as regards the next set of elections?

I've heard it pointed out several times but there is the much more immediate issue of the 2010 election to worry about so the punditry doesn't make much of an issue about it.

Because it's just part of the system. But it is part of a system which is making me work a little harder to get Deval Patrick out of the governer's office here.

But in a context as polarized as the present-day.....I mean Hell, this is like the Republicans now being in favor of retaining the filibuster while the Democrats for a time wished to abolish it, with both majority parties calling abolishing it necessary for democracy. The present-day makes stuff as ordinary as a dog taking a shit in someone's lawn the end of the world.

And that is just the way the Democans and Republicrats like it.

Anything less and people would start to realize just how much alike and corrupt both wings of the party are and really start looking into 3rd parties to get them the hell out of power.
