Censorship, continued:

What kind of response do you think South Park would have had, if instead of showing Buddha doing cocaine, it showed Mohammed [w/ or w/o a censor bar{and ignore censoring by the network}] doing cocaine?

Why do you think that?

The same basically, except tipper gore would be made uncomfortable with the cocaine use and language.

Hasn't this issue been talked to death enough already? This post is pretty slim on any real substance.

You're not going to get honest answers.

Well, delusional responses can be considered honest though they'll still be wrong.

You're not going to get honest answers.

When you say stuff like this it makes me wonder why anyone should even bother to engage in a discussions with you. Seriously. This is like in the other thread where you told me that I could not possibly think that flag burning is disgusting, I suppose becuase it doesn't fit with your cartoon caricature of who am and what I think about issues.

Which is totally stupid since you don't know very much about me at all.

If you have already made up you mind about what everyone is going to say and what you are going to think of what they say, why even show up talk on this board? Seriously what is the point?

I seem to recall...

This reminds me of the issue over the difference between free speech in America vs. the lack of it in China. After all, the Chinese are not free to criticize the Chinese government, but Americans do it all the time.

There have been examples of buddhist violence in say Bhutan. but overall it is a grownup and mature religion that tends to use its big boy words to deal with disagreements.

Having a rule in a religion the prohibits depicting holy figures makes the religion immature? Really? Is that what you're saying? On what basis do you judge which religious beliefs are "mature" and which are not?

As it stands, your statement seems horribly ethnocentric.

Different religions have different things that they hold as sacred to different degrees. The fact that reactions are not consistent doesn't really say anything-- irrational religious extremists who would kill others for violating their beliefs, be they Muslims or Christian abortion clinic bombers, will exist in all large groups of humans.

The extremists are wrong.

But, I would not go out and get pregnant over and over and have as many abortions as possible then post videos of them all over the internet just to piss off pro-life people, even though I'm free to do that. I COULD do it--should I prove it? (I think some artist woman claimed she was doing that (she was lying) --but her actions are on about the same level as the cartoonists in my eyes. It's being gross and provocative just to annoy other people. The cartoons have an extra layer of there being no real reason why anyone would draw the prophet... except to make the point that one is free to do so... but it is a dumb point for a bunch of westerners to make-- if you lived in Iran I might be impressed-- instead the only immediate result is your friends think you are cool and edgy and Muslim Americans cringe a little as they wonder if they are welcome in this country...)

Look, now. I appreciate that you'd like to poise a question and trigger a discussion which is indeed worthwhile. However, let's make it clear: the policy of this forum is to encourage a debate after the OP stating a personal opinion or even better, making some analysis. If you're only going to ask a short question, I'm afraid you're risking having your future posts removed. This one fortunately triggered a worthwhile discussion, so I don't think it'd be fair to remove it, but I just thought you needed to know in advance.
