Wow. Pope Benedict's personal preacher Raniero Cantalamessa created a firestorm by comparing the scrutiny and pressure the Catholic Church has been experiencing lately in their molestation scandals to the "more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism."

This just further illustrates why the Roman Catholic Church will never take real steps to stop abuse. They aren't concerned with the children that are getting raped, they're only concerned with their own reputation. They see themselves as being wrongfully attacked, and never does it enter their minds that their actions (and lack thereof) contributed to what they are enduring now.

I hope the pressure never lets up but sooner or later the mainstream media will give up on it, only to flare up again down the road after more children have been raped, and the cycle will repeat again.

Pope Benedict, the only way this is going to end is if you take real steps towards stopping abuse. First of all stop protecting priests who molest children and treat it like the horrific sin (and crime) that it is. Throw them out of the Church and/or turn them in to law enforcement.

To help prevent this from happening as much you're going to have to allow priests to marry. Stop making excuses, stop covering up, and make a real effort to end this abuse.

Once again I never said that. It's only one step that needs to be taken, and only partly because of the problem with sexual tension. It will also draw more to the priesthood, many who wouldn't join because they couldn't marry. This will in turn make it easier for the Church to defrock priests since they wouldn't have to worry about a priest shortage anymore.

The zero tolerance policy will both purge their ranks of most of the pedophiles and the marriage policy will allow them to be replaced more easily.

That's neither here nor there. There is nothing that's going to stop pedophilia altogether, be it inside or outside the Church.

But it goes directly to the point. You are insistent that allowing for married priests is actually a positive step towards addressing the pedophilia problem in the Catholic Church, when there literally is not a shred of evidence that this would be a positive step at all. It might suit people's theological desires better, but it literally has nothing whatever to do with helping to prevent pedophilia. It would in no way represent a positive step. In fact, if the Church were to suddenly announce a relaxation on the discipline of celibate priesthood for the purpose of addressing pedophilia, this would only further highlight the Church's ignorance of the causes of this grave problem, and would only represent the Church running away from the problem, not addressing it.
