This was supposed to be a "funny" piece but it's mostly become a rant. Mostly directed at a certain segment of society, calling themselves various names, from "conservative" to "truther". It was supposed to be funny, mostly due to the nature of the subject, and because of the sheer amount of stupidity that's just begging to be mocked. But no, I've no desire for LULz right now. The amount of stupidity among those people has passed the point of LULzworthiness. It's not funny. It's scary. And frightening. Much scarier than the pandemic, actually. Can't joke about this. Not now.
Illiteracy and ignorance has become trendy and dandy. Ignorant public gurus are lecturing people about stuff they know jack shit about. Illiterate "teachers" are teaching the illiterate kids of semi-literate parents.
Violence-prone folks, wannabe fascists, closet neo-Nazis, unapologetic racists are calling for riots, and they've decided they could get what they want by crying as loud as they can that they're having their freedom of speech assaulted.
The good ole Don has been stripped of his Twitter privileges, and, you know, that's the end of democracy. Except the Don literally has a room for press conferences in his home. And he won't shut up. And those folks won't stop listening to him. But no, he's the victim. And his fanboys and fangirls by extension. Because Twitter decided enough is enough. Hah. That stinks of cow manure. Doesn't that stink of cow manure?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. And, since in today's world of loud media if something ain't garnered with screams and threats, it'll fall on deaf ears with all those fat-bellied bearded schmucks calling themselves "patriots", bewailing their endangered "traditional values" and promising salvation from the "tyranny", I'll have to scream it to them:
When we speak of the freedom of speech, we DO NOT mean to include fascists, racists, Nazis and terrorists, be they domestic or foreign, just as when we speak of the freedom of sexual orientation we do not mean to include paedophiles. Period! Understood?
If you mean to use your freedom of speech to sow hatred that brings fascism, which by definition limits the freedom of speech, you can take all those Voltaire quotes that you've memorized after having had them funneled into your hollow skull by your like-minded schmucks, you can roll them all up and stick them where the Sun doth shine.
By the way, Voltaire was a liberal. Just sayin. Or, as the schmucks in question would call him, a "liberast". Keep that in mind.
Ya know, there's one thing I'm grateful to Facebook for. FB displayed all racists and cowards for all to see. See, that's very convenient for me. This way I'll know exactly which people from my surrounding are cowardly, racist schmucks so I could stay away from them. "But, but, we're entitled to our own opinion!" Sure, but that doesn't make every single opinion just as valid as the next one. If your opinion is a pile of cow turd, then that's what it is. If it makes you a social threat, then you're entitled to being exposed as such. And that's not just a matter of "little differences and misunderstandings". Arguing about which Pink Floyd album is the best is a difference - not whether people should be killed and repressed for the color of their skin, or the language they speak, or the religion they embrace.
If you've spent the whole summer ranting stuff like, "why do blacks in America defend George Floyd who had a criminal record", you know, the guy that was killed unarmed during arrest for the purported possession of a fake $20 dollar bill; if you've spent hours displaying your awesome sense of humor through dozens of racist jokes around the Internet after the murder of a black paramedic woman in her bed, in her home; if you were so very offended by people smashing shop windows in protest to all that - you should now be a hundred times more vocal about those fellow schmucks of yours who sacked Capitol Hill. Many of them - guess what - with criminal records. Some for assault, others for fraud, etc. They were there to assault the institutions of democracy. And you're now smirking sarcastically, and explaining how that was in defense of democracy!?
Why, my dear, why are you so coy about calling yourselves what you truly are? Why use watered-down terms like "right-wing", "conservative", and "defender of traditional values"? How come you pride in refusing to be politically correct, while dancing around the real name for youselves - Nazi? You ARE politically correct, then. Cowards. Why hide behind "blue lines", Blue lives matter, and Confederate flags, other flags with rattlesnakes and hidden messages, when you've already got an old, well-known brand, the swastika? No need of rebranding! You'll never achieve as much recognition and message power as the swastika.
You know what your darling Voltaire once said? "Those who can make you believe in absurdities, can make you commit atrocities". Well, that's the purpose of those you worship as your mentors. To lead you by the nose to their ends. But first they'll have to give you a nice thorough brainwashing.
5G, chemtrails, Bill Gates, microchips in your vaccine, DNA modification, all of this is being debated by people having difficulties navigating their smartphones and writing their names down. Someone tossed the words Covid, microchip, and top-secret together, and you crapped your pants with fear. Oh no! Our brains are being microchipped! Hah. Like anyone would bother wasting good tech on a hollow skull?
You know what? Better stay away from the vaccine. Really. Natural selection will do its job.

BTW, I quite like the odd Voltaire quote. In my Panglossian days I could quite believe in the best possible world. I blame the drugs.

Yup.
People who cry about various folks with hateful ideologies being "deplatformed" and not allowed to speak on campuses and the like - let's Godwin this, if it was literally Hitler, would "deplatforming" him still be wrong? Hitler didn't get his way into power saying "hey, you know what would be great, guys? gassing all the Jews" right out the gate. German society had already been tolerating and fostering anti-Semitism for awhile. He didn't spring the camps immediately, it was a progression to that point... through things like speeches and stirring people up. We had to learn from Hitler that when people show you who they are, believe them. If someone espouses hateful ideologies, they're capable of tolerating, supporting, and participating in hateful, violent actions. It's not *just* speech, it's not *just* belief. It's already right there. When we give that person espousing fascism and hate a platform, we're giving them power, and a form of validation for their garbage.

Date: 20/1/21 22:45 (UTC)Judging by my nephews, I think enough of the young generation is savvy enough about the way the internet creates insular subcultures that they'll be able to separate the adults' sheer panic at supposedly an entire political party going off-reservation, from the interpretation that's closer to the truth: A bunch of primitive screwheads got all together in one place and had the equivalent of a Burning Man after-party for the political right, which got way out of hand. As far as insurrections and coups go, this was a parody of one. A hostile takeover led by a furtive gaggle of mama's-boys in tactical vests, led by an incoherent Dave Grohl lookalike wearing a Grand Poobah lodge hat, taking selfies with the police and stealing desk blotters, then crowing about it on Facebook? Please. This is what you get when a bunch of football fans can't put on warpaint and shout incoherently in the stands for a year, like they're used to. How many of them brought bratwurst and coolers full of beer to this "revolution"? But thanks are due to these morons: The seriousness with which everyone is discussing it, and the fallout on the social networks regarding censorship and political speech, is a good thing overall.
Here's a photo from the insurrection:
