...but it was pretty nice to see the contrast between the two candidates on the issue of climate change. Kamala slapped the Republicans with the "anti science" label, and Pence beat the Democrats about the head and neck with the spectre of the "Green New Deal", and how it would (allegedly) dismantle the US energy sector and drop countless people out of work. Both accusations hyperbolic, both on-point for their party.

A short post-debate poll:

My mother: "I consider it a waste of my time.  I had forgotten what a boring toad Pence is.  Kamala got in a few good shots and achieved I think what she needed to do. Intelligent and personable. Not wildly liberal angry black woman."

My best friend: "I see Mike Pence tried to pull the same annoying thing by just ignoring the moderator -- but he’s just not as much of a loudmouth bully as Trump so it didn't work."

My summary: "Almost entirely talking points and baseless accusations, but at least it was civil. Hooray for democracy ... ?"

I am with you on your summery. Reminded me of a good old debate where halfway through you asked yourself "why I am watching this" not because it was a farce but because it was the same talking points, same back and forth. It was delightfully refreshing.

I think the primary goal for any vice presidential candidate is - dont fuck up. You can't win, but you dont have to lose. Both easily cleared this low bar.

Pence answering the previous question most of the time was odd - is there some kind of psychological edge given by doing this, or was he just stalling/preparing?

I'd say he outperformed his running mate - maybe next time Trump should get debate coaching from his vp instead of...Rudy Giuliani?

The strength it had to have taken not to shoo that big ass fly, he's either a ninja or a psycopath. I threw socks at it a few times.

Kamala has improved - I dont remember her once doing the 'we need to have/start that conversation' thing.

Why did the old guys have to stand at podiums but these young whippersnappers got nice office chairs with a desk?

Great job by the commentary shows on reminding us every 10 seconds that 'the vice president is a heartbeat away from being president!' - each time with the same smug oooh looky I did a zinger! look.
