The new birthers
24/8/16 13:07Remember the whole Obama birth certificate debacle? Now there's this:
Debunking the Hillary Clinton health conspiracy
"From Donald Trump and his top surrogates to the right-wing media and its engine rooms of outrage in the blogosphere, Hillary Clinton's opponents are ramping up efforts to sow doubt over the candidate's health."
I don't know if this is a concerted effort or it's just that The Donald picked up a conspiracy topic at random, then flamed it up as only he can, and his hacks duly followed suit. But one thing is for sure: right-wing folks sure as hell are extremely susceptible to, well, extremes. Conspiracy theories abound in that sort of mindset - the government is after them, it's all part of a grand global plan to subdue their freedoms and take their guns, etc.
For example, here's the great and awesome Alex Jones, his InfoWars site, and one of his devout followers making the case for Hillary's purported health problems:
Top Doctor: Concerns Over Hillary’s Health ‘Not a Conspiracy Theory’
"Rutgers University Professor of Medicine says Clinton should be assessed by an impartial panel of physicians"
Just how crackpot this is, I leave to you (not to mention discriminatory; a panel of physicians doing what - checking her teeth or something? probing her bodily orifices to the delight of the public?)
All this shows how desperate the right-wing is to come up with something, anything, that could derail the march of their opponents to another term in the White House, while completely ignoring their own problems on the right that has brought them to this predicament of theirs.
And hey, even if no one takes this proposal seriously and no health panel checks Hillary, there are always the 2nd Amendment Folks(tm) to take care of her, RIGHT???

Date: 24/8/16 19:17 (UTC)Any person running for President of the US who is over, say, 65 deserves extra scrutiny. They are taking on arguably the most high pressure, round-the-clock meat grinder of a job in the world, at an age when most people are fading into a quiet retirement.
She is 68.
Trump is already 70, he would be older than Reagan was when he was inaugurated. He deserves the same scrutiny, if not more since he is a man and more likely to drop dead suddenly.

Date: 24/8/16 19:40 (UTC)Back in 2008, the right (in the primary) and the left (in the general) questioned McCains health, and he's stlll going.
I wasn't a big McCain fan though....when it comes to 2008 Republicans - I liked that Fred Thompson fella, no questions about his health at all (but still, if Republicans had to go through a semi-celebrity phase - why didn't they do it then?)
