Since as we all know, the only thing that matters to Christianity in our time is sex, and gay sex at that.

And here you have the White House officially encouraging gay rights discrimination. Ah, for the ability to believe in Obama's Commu-Oh, bad analogy, the Soviets were some of the worst persecutors of gays around-I mean, Oh for the the idiots who believe that Obama's a prog-Oh, bad analogy, the Progressives were eugenicists and racist. Let's try that one more time-Oh, for the ability to believe that Obama is in any way a social reformer, as I would sincerely love to believe it.

Obama's proven his Christian credentials by this to the Religious Right, surely? After all, the only thing it cares about is teh Ghey, right?

Not necessarily. Didn't Richard Dawkins state in his most famous polemic that humans were all genetically inclined to believe in a higher power or superstition as an evolutionary safeguard?

you can see examples of manifest superstition every single day. everything from "tapping the top of your pop can makes it not fizz" to "wear the right clothes and you won't get raped."

i'm not going to brazenly deny something should have died off and it didn't. it obviously worked to some end or another, if nothing else it proves that identification as a group made the religious stronger than the individual.

i would like to think we've moved beyond institutionalized superstition. we no longer have any business fearing the unknown.

And I would like to think that in an age where you can change the color of your skin and the nature of your hair (http://www.hitsville.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/michael-jackson-neverland.jpg) that being called a nigger or being arrested in Cambridge, Massachusetts wouldn't cause quite a stir, but it does. Similarly, you may think we've outgrown it, but according to a very atheistic and very respected biologist, it's genetic.

So why the double standard? If something is genetic, human decency has, in the 20th century considered it not worthy of disrespecting someone for. Perhaps the law was ahead of science in this regard for putting religion in the same sanctioned category as race or gender. Either way, it puts the characteristic beyond reproach, whatever empirical weight your criticisms might have.

so instead of whining about being called a nigger they should just bleach their skin like everyone else, and that's why it's comparable to religion?

You tell me, you're the one pushing a choice=criticism dynamic. All I said was that you can "choose" not to be black now.

you can't be born a specific religion, you can only be heavily indoctrinated, and that's something i think is on par with anti-vaccination types as "believing stupid things you hear"

someone wants to believe that we're all going to burn in hellfire for eternity if adam and steve shack up, well, that's fantastic, i don't think making fun of them is a crime. in fact, making fun of black people isn't a crime either. you know that, right? like, i'm not advocating the commission of actual legitimate violent hate crimes on christians or something. they have more practice at it anyway.

but whatever why do black people choose to be black anyway when white is right hmm JUST ASKIN QUESTIONS

You're not paying attention. If the inclination towards religion is genetic, it's not entirely based on rationality. You might as well go smack up an autistic kid and scream at him to stop being a retard for all the good it might do you.

And yes, fine, whatever, this is all superfluous masturbation anyways, here's your out from your ridiculously indefensible position, take it.

the difference is that it can be done away with using only a properly funded public school system, and it would be the first step in eliminating "us vs. them" black and white politics, which is why i think there's is a vested interest in curtailing education if at all possible in this country

it would complicate politics of hate. religion is a tool of politics of hate. the fact that hateful political entities have survived the ages by essentially breeding piety among the lower classes is only surprising to idiots.

The statement unfortunately still does not compute, I'll assume you meant religion by the first "it". If you want to debate that there's a big Republican Nazi John Byrch Society conspiracy to rollback education so that the South can rise again, I think I'm going to go play Team Fortress 2.

This however..

Yeah, like those fucking Bolsheviks of Russia.
