I remember as a teenager my mother making me read books by television evangelist about Satanism because she didn't like my comic book collection. To be fair it was the Marvel Inferno cross over series for you comic book geeks. That was rather evil looking

But stack them up against Westboro Baptist Church....

I, like almost everyone, hates the Wesboro Baptist Church. My wife was a Baptist and I LOVE going to Baptist church service its fun and positive and uplifting. NOTHING like these evil weird hatefilled, flag stomping, clowns.

Would you tithe to a Satanic church just to help them fund their 'pink mass'?

I have absolutely no comprehension why this is a thing. Why does dying make an arsehole not an arsehole?

BTW I'm genuinely interested in your response. I don't understand heaps of things about social etiquette that most people take for granted, and it's a long hard process trying to learn it. I only recently got the "too soon" thing (although I still think it's only too soon if you're speaking in a forum where someone directly affected by the event may hear, otherwise, I have no idea why there's a time limit on being able to make jokes about things(.

I don't know if it'....ehhhhhh.... I'm pretty damn sure it won't do any good. Besides everything else, Westboro isn't as much as a problem as they probably wish they were. They're a force on the side of homophobia that even the most stubborn religious conservative doesn't like. They've managed to make so many enemies across the nation that they are actually working against themselves by making homophobia look bad. They are the gay version of the KKK, people assume that as long as they're not as extreme as them they're free of any prejudice.

As for Satanists, I actually find them more tolerable then most fundamentalist Christians. A religion has an image problem when one has ran into more unpleasant people from it (or at least claim to be from it) then a fringe faith that advocates casting hexes. And as for the kind of God a group like Westboro would worship, I would gladly go to hell in defiance of any supreme being that wouldn't accept what I am, what they made me after all. Noting against Jesus or a more loving God of course.

The Satanists I've met have been really nice people, almost without exception. A tad misanthropic maybe, but nothing too serious.

It'll piss WBC off. They're asking for it, and it'll bring lulz to millions. Sounds like win-win to me.

Worshiping Satan directly is more honest than worshiping the idol that Satan crafted. I personally prefer transcendence. It is a good way to avoid both.

Fred Phelps Sr's mother had nothing to do with the Westboro Baptist Church. His mother died when he was five years old, so she had little if nothing to do with shaping his warped opinions. He was raised by his great-aunt until 1944. He became estranged from his father and step-mother in 1950.

This is just people acting like disrespectful brats and it's more bad publicity the LGBT community doesn't want or need.
