I know, I know. OWS has taken over TP and sometimes, its just too much non-stop OWS posts.
Y'all remember those videos from Sept 24, right?
"A New York police commander who pepper-sprayed protesters during the opening days of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations last month faces an internal disciplinary charge that could cost him 10 vacation days, the police said Tuesday.
The commander, Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna, has been given a so-called command discipline, according to a law enforcement official. Officials said investigators found that the inspector ran afoul of Police Department rules for the use of the spray. The department’s patrol guide, its policy manual, says pepper spray should be used primarily to control a suspect who is resisting arrest, or for protection; it does allow for its use in “disorder control,” but only by officers with special training.
The Internal Affairs Bureau reviewed the episode and found that Inspector Bologna “used pepper spray outside departmental guidelines,” said Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman. He declined to elaborate." - NYT on Oct 18
so that's all that happens if you pepper spray someone improperly. 10 days of vacation time is lost. that's definitely some severe punishment for using pepper spray on a woman HE DIDNT EVEN ARREST.
I know this is some hippie-dippie shit of me, but can we get some consensus here? Tony Bologna is a fucking jackoff? The NYPD has supported the common-sense theory that he went overboarding with his pepper-spraying and, i do hope the DA charges him with assault. As I'm sure he would charge anybody else who randomly pepper-sprayed some people.
I mean, can you imagine how quick to throw your ass in jail they would be if you pepper sprayed a police officer? Holy shit, you'd be lucky to make it to jail without any bruises. Even if you did go peacefully.
So: what do YOU think Tony Bologna's punishment for misuing pepper spray should be?
Me? I'd say fired. If this was his first charge, maybe suspension. But Tony got a list of these kinda incidents, so fuckem. Take his badge.

Date: 20/11/11 19:42 (UTC)About midnight Thursday, some of the accused officers began arriving at Central Booking at Bronx Criminal Court, at 215 East 161st Street. About 60 off-duty officers crowded in the main foyer to support their comrades. They formed a human wall, four-deep, between reporters and the some of the accused officers as they came out of a hallway. At three different times, when three of the accused men showed their faces, the crowd burst into applause. The accused men waved and pumped their fists in the air. An official came out of the hallway and stared down the crowd, drawing insults. A woman told the assembled officers to meet in the morning to support the accused officers at their arraignments.
...
On Thursday afternoon, the union sent a text message to 400 of its delegates encouraging them to fill the courtroom in the Bronx with officers in a show of support for the implicated union members. The idea was for those delegates to spread the message to rank-and-file members, the person said.

Date: 20/11/11 19:30 (UTC)Never, ever apologize for your posts. This is a political community and the OWS is political news. If people whine about posts, they're free to scroll past them and not read them. They sort of remind me of people who used to say on IRC "I'm bored." Well log off, honey ;)
