As you all know, the Republicans are trying to pick some guy. Most likely to be president or something.[Poll #1789040]

[edit] Apologies for leaving out Michele "I'm Try'na Be Crazier Than Sarah" Bachman. You may consider her in the last option, though!

I chose who I think might actually have a chance to help the Republicans win, so I chose Romney.

I hope they pick Cain or Palin though.

Palin's not running. She's already said that.

I hope Cain wins the GOP primary, too, though I'm sure not for the same reasons you do.

I would vote for Herman Cain since he is precisely the sort of ideologue without grounding that would turn out surprisingly pragmatic and liberal, all the while able to spin it as true conservatism. Cognitive dissonance, it is the bread and butter of politics. You see, Herman Cain is identified as conservative, which is an identity which will hold no matter what he actually turns out to do.

Being English, and not having a vote, I find myself petrified by every single one of the Republicans on offer.

The lesser evil, IMHO, is Obama: by a country mile, or two, or a hundred.

I predict that for any of them to win over the GOP base, made up of over-60s "God says gays are icky so we like God" Christians means that none of them will be able to both do this and win the general election by being appealing to everyone in the USA not-the-GOP base, and the GOP base itself can't carry an election in its own right.

Upon reflection I have come to the conclusion that the primary purpose of national politics is to keep me entertained and occasionally kill foriegners (and/or) National Guardsmen.

I'm voting for Cain because I suspect that he'll do both in spades.

Just imagine the campaign commercials!

Now you're talking! There were elections here today and a nice plan circulated around the webs: vote for some tiny party and dilute the vote! So neither of the major parties would have a clear majority, they'd be forced to negotiate in the next municipal parliaments, and they'd be stuck in a perpetual gridlock (because they're known for their chronic inability to form stable coalitions). Punch a line in their pockets, where it'll hurt them most. Make them suffer. All of them. That's the plan.

It is interesting that John F. Kennedy did not even declare his candidacy until the summer before the 1960 elections. How times have changed.

I liked Gingrich before he started pandering to the special interests. Romney has been doing the same.

During this week's debate, Perry acted like a bully.

Ron Paul lost my vote by his behavior when he lost the nomination in 2008.

Herman Cain is the best candidate so far. Maybe he can get some of the others to serve in his cabinet. Put Ron Paul in charge of the Treasury, for example ...

It's the money that's done that early election cycle stuff. When Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963, his plans for the following week were have Thanksgiving with his family in Palm Beach, Florida, and after that to *START* discussions about the 1964 election. Robert Kennedy didn't even enter the race until March 16th 1968, but only after Lyndon Johnson declined seeking a 2nd term.
