Let's talk,

I am willing to make a personal pledge (be the change you want to see happen?) to either ignore posting political attack ads, or only to post them as mockeries of Truth, complete with facts disputing the idiotic accusations, only from non patrisan sources.

It is about to get bad, really bad this cycle. There is no telling what they will make up to say against each other. The key is to always identify yourself in polls as 'not committed' and always tell the polster "no opinion".

I think there are enough intelligent people in the US that can overcome the ignorance of those easily led by jingoist and opinion manipulators.
Using an attack ad as the basis for discussion should be dismissed as severly as discussing the Libertarian Prinicple of Animal Fucking.

That poll earlier about the video indicates almost all who answered demonstrated they can see beyond the Pale of obvious falsehoods. I submit to the group the best way to deal with hate and manipulation is by ignoring or mocking the message.

Question for the group: with the new reality of super PACS and the oncoming media assult for the soul of the country, don't we all feel the most effective way to deflect the damage of the propaganda machines is to IGNORE it? Or rather, to MOCK it?

Can we beat the Devil at his own game?

Attack ads are like the stupid uncle at family gatherings. You just nod politely and change the subject. Not that it matters. Your stupid uncle is still going to hammer away at whatever it is he's all fussed-up about. But you know, you deal.

It's like dealing with annoying people in real life. It's not your obligation to set them on the right path, just smile, nod, and move on. You'd think common social decency would prevail, but when politics gets involved I guess civility goes out the window.

Your reasonableness is kind of a buzzkill but it makes sense.

I for one am waiting eagerly for the start of the dirty campaign. There's nothing more lulz-worthy than all that stupid junk that's gonna pour onto the heads of the American public (and bring me the giggles in the process). Damn, your election process is much more entertaining than ours!

Mockery is almost always the best policy.

Defeating the Devil?

I generally advise against attempting to defeat the Devil. By attempting to knock her off of her throne, you will only incur her admiration. She may put you on her staff. Were you to succeed in your pursuit, you would wind up enthroned in her stead.

If you are true American, you will spend your time and effort attacking the Liberal Elite as you swill beer and munch on chips. An occasional slap at the Illuminati and the Greenies would also be appropriate.

What are you doing in Georgia? The Liberal Elite belong in New York.

The heat is rising because the stakes are rising. Political power has become so intrusive and so comprehensive that it is dangerous to allow factions who believe in ways of which one disapproves to acquire the reins of power. Too much is at stake. Politics is inherently divicive, and the more concentrated, centralized, and unaccountable political power becomes the more hotly contested will be the battles over who is authorized to exercise it. The problem of no-holds-barred politics will only get worse until it collapses or people rediscover the value of liberty. Freedom is something you cannot have unless you are willing to respect it in others.

I'm just waiting for Michele Bachmann to put together something as crazy as the "Demon Sheep" ad or Christine O'Donnell's "I'm not a witch" video. We MUST post that in this comm for Friday Lulz if it happens. Agreed?

Someone should compile a collection of TV-ad/speech gaffes. There'll be plenty of material during this election campaign!

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
