http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2011/06/rick-perry-god-caused-bad-economy-so.html

As we know now that God's causal nature takes precedence in matters of economics over human causation, I'd be curious which Biblical Principles Governor Perry thinks we need to return to. Outlawing interest, greed, theft, booze, slandering, con artistry, and particularly adultery (sounds like Newt Gingrich might have some problems with that verse....until one of his latest squeezes gets cancer and then he leaves) seems like a good start. The bible prohibits interest, calling it the sin of usury, and it prohibits revolution. I suppose by the exact application of Governor Perry's idea we'd best start appealing to the House of Windsor to return to the British Empire as the Dominion of North America.

Or we could recognize the flaws in secular policies that created the economic crisis, and work to fix them and leave God out of it. I accept the existence of God, but I'm quite nervous about bringing in the Almighty to explain a crisis whose nature was apparent to people years before it actually happened.

LOL! I like how he mentions "not asking Pharoah to give everything to everybody."

Is he suggesting that ancient Egypt had Universal Health Care??? And that this was why God sent the plagues?

Hang on. Editing my Haggadah.

Gail Collins recently had a funny column on him. For those who don't read her:

Perry would seem to be Dubya-plus.

I'm not sure who would be worse, Perry or Sarah.

He was obviously on some religious show playing to his audience. It's clear he has no idea WTF he's talking about.

If only there were some secular tradition of thought that we could use to engage in an analysis of the internal contradictions of capitalism...

Also, I'm not sure which selection of biblical principles he's talking about, but things like selling daughters into slavery, owning slaves in general, driving women out of the city gates during their "unclean time" were all part of that.

But I'm being a meanie because I have no soul, according to some.

When your idol...

When you craft a deity that is responsible for creating everything that is seen and unseen, then it is natural to also grant it responsibility for all the bad stuff. The economy took a big hit after people professing to be divinely inspired slammed some stolen airplanes into big office buildings. Some called it an act of the material Creator of the flat and immobile Earth, while others attributed it to His left hand lackey.

Maybe he doesn't know that Joseph became the viceroy of the Pharaoh and instituted communism to get Egypt through a famine. I think the Biblical lesson is to nationalize all capital reserves and hand them out in equal portions.

"Pharoah" was pretty good to Gov. Perry's family... spent decades handing them money to not grow cotton. "Hard-working" Perry could be a poster boy for professional politicians; he never held a full time job in the private sector; never owned a business; is Governor of a state that gives very little real power to its Governor. He is a piece of furniture.

Wasn't Perry the guy that wanted to secede (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/15/gov-rick-perry-texas-coul_n_187490.html) from the US in 2009?  This guy is a nut case.  It sounds like he would rather be a suburb of Mexico than be a part of America.

He didn't really want to secede. He just sucked up to Tea Partiers by telling them he understood their desire to do so.

Oh, so he wasn't sincere. He was just pandering for votes for re-election. Aaaaah. I feel so much better now.

The House of Windsor? I'll be damned if I pledge my loyalty to those Protestant German usurpers. Everyone knows the throne rightfully belongs to the House of Stuart.

"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
