Been working a bit more on the Omniverse Tales. One of my stories I've written the outline for most recently involves the http://www.alternatehistory.com/gateway/analyses/Drakaproblems.html Domination of Draka where the problems of that timeline are mentioned here. Where the Draka sends 700,000 of its elite forces only to find out they're outnumbered 8-1 by an Imperial Bizjarran combined arms group. They send an initial attack expecting their usual Villain Sue status to hold.

Then the initial artillery barrage from the Empire kills everyone in that first wave. Then the aliens send a first counterattacking wave as large as the initial Draka force, not the smaller one. The superior numbers and firepower cause the Draka to retreat at which point they realize that their orbital backups have been destroyed.

......

And then the Domination's forces find themselves subject to a killing ground where the survivors are carted off to the Architects of Fear who introduce them to the Imperial version of Shiro Ishii.

I should note that this was one of the most fun stories that I'd ever written because the Domination's troops literally expect their enemies to have the Idiot Ball in their favor. Hence they try a headlong attack also expecting the http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhatMeasureIsANonHuman trope to hold. So not only do they send 30,000 troops to attack a much larger alien army but they don't get far before said army completely pulverizes them with the first strike.

And when the Draka start realizing that the Idiot Ball never applied to the Empire and that the Empire knew they were coming in the first place there's an epic "Oh shit" moment. And then they meet Huir-akh-khi.....

The other stories I was working on concern alternate histories, one of several more regular alternate histories in the Omniverse. It's an alternate Civil War based on the Union in June 1864 inflicting an overwhelming defeat on the Army of Northern Virginia at Petersburg, ensuring Lee's surrender by August.

The consequences of such an abrupt defeat of the Confederacy prove quite interesting given Lincoln and the Republicans win an overwhelming victory at this point, though Joe Johnston still leads the largest Confederate army outside Richmond. There's so much alternate history out there about a Confederate victory that people neglect that the consequences of a shorter Union victory are equally fascinating in their own right.

The other Alternate timeline is one where the Nazis attack the Soviet Union in May 1941, right into the teeth of a Soviet military on full combat alert that slows them down until the Rasputitsa, at which point the Nazis don't even make it into Moscow by December and the first major Soviet counter-offensive is the Second Battle of Kharkov.

With a lot more manpower to spare the Soviet Union has not merely its mechanized army by 1943/4 but several million more men than it did in reality, and thus the Nazis start getting one curbstomp after another, leading in its own way to faster Western Allied victories following the invasions of Italy and Normandy.

Imperial Japan pretty much ends up fighting the war from November 1944-September 1945 all on its own and in March gets a sudden surprise attack from the Soviet Union akin to August Storm but the resulting curbstomp is much deeper and stronger than in reality, with Stalin using the chaos of the invasion to Purge Mao Zedong.

By the time the USA has used the atomic bombs the Soviet Union has already conquered all of Sakhalin and invaded Hokkaido. Imperial Japanese Army troops trying Banzai Charges into T-34s and Katyushas go down faster than they did against the USA because the Soviets are much less squeamish about killing them.

The resulting consequences for Japan are that the Soviets get part of Tokyo as an occupation zone and the Cold War is correspondingly a lot more tense and near-apocalyptic than it already was.

The Omniverse Tales are a series of stories I'm working on. The stories proper take place in a multiverse, but the multiverse includes already-created (i.e. published fiction) stories and characters, hence how the Bizjarran Empire of my story curbstomps these guys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Domination.
