21/7/10 00:29Since some of you might have wondered what the Tea Party take on this story might be, here's an article from one Tea Party person (and it's a real Tea Party, not that TEA Party Express crap).
Wait for the Whole Story
Let's see what fault you can find with this.
Wait for the Whole Story
This story brings to light so many issues that we face today, especially in light of the recent stories surfacing about race and the heightened awareness of racial tensions on both sides. It would seem as though both sides are playing a childish game of tit for tat. I think it's time that we as Americans stop allowing those in power, both black, white, brown, whatever, to dictate what we think.
Let's see what fault you can find with this.

Date: 21/7/10 07:51 (UTC)Same applies to racial tension as it does to other fields as well.
black vs white
conservatives vs liberals
workers vs management
men vs women

Date: 21/7/10 13:32 (UTC)Yes, racial tension in America is something new! And both sides are playing a childish game -- the black people who have been oppressed for generations are being as childish as the white power structure that has been doing the oppression.
Sometimes fault-finding occurs because there is actually, you know, a fault.

Date: 21/7/10 16:56 (UTC)Read what you quoted a little more carefully and you'll see that it didn't say that. You're putting words in other people's mouths again.
Lumping people into a group based on skin color is a sign of racism.

Date: 21/7/10 17:01 (UTC)No, it isn't. The immigrant experience of the Irish is substantively different from the slavery experience of black people.
I mean, are you seriously asserting that Afro-American Studies is by definition a racist enterprise?

Date: 21/7/10 16:57 (UTC)But you can't say how. It just feels wrong?

Date: 21/7/10 17:15 (UTC)The whole POINT of the Sharrod fiasco, the reason the story was finessed, massaged and pushed, is the maintenance in the public mind of a false equivalency between racism and 'reverse racism'. Construction of this trope has been politically useful to people who directly oppose certain policies that address race inequality, as well as in the wider political arena where one group is more or less associated with issues of race inequality.
So, now that in this case, the back story is revealed, now that the details are laid bare... what does the author you quote take away from this? Essentially an attitude of "A plague on both your houses! Both sides are playing a childish game of tit for tat!"
In other words... the tactic which spawned the lie has succeed in exactly what it was supposed to do.
