How you see the economy is actually how you see the future economy. It's like the stock market forecasting six months in advance. With a landslide Trump win and Republicans in total control of the House and Senate, people seem to be expecting that they're going to see some real much needed change. Whether that's going to materialize is a different matter altogether:

Republicans are feeling great about the economy again. Democrats are really worried

I think the article really gets it wrong. It's not that Republicans and Democrats see the economy differently. It's that there is the reality of the economy and that hasn't changed at all. Yet, Republicans see the economy more like it really is since the election. During Biden's years, they saw the economy as terrible, even though the economic measures disagreed.

How that may change if and when Trump imposes the tariffs that he promised and after he deports the workers who harvest America's food, is yet to be seen (if at all). Trump already stated that prices may rise, mind you:

Trump says he can’t guarantee tariffs won’t raise US prices and won’t rule out revenge prosecutions

Minor point of order here: Trump’s victory was not a landslide. The popular vote percentage difference between the two candidates was about the same as it’s been for the last 20 years.

I suppose the saving grace about Donald Trump is that he’s a fantastic candidate, but he’s a pretty shit commander-in-chief. His strategy for solving problems is to ignore all of the really hard ones and loudly declare the existence of a bunch of different ones, which can then be solved by the simple act of not talking about them any more.

The easiest way for him to fix this “horrible awful” economy is to just declare that the economy is now great, and the easiest way for him to fix the so-called “crisis” at the border is to acknowledge now that it’s not really a thing, since it hasn’t been for most of a year. The easiest way for him to make “peace” between Ukraine and Russia is to proclaim it’s not our business and walk entirely away. Global warming, the ridiculous state of medical care, the hollowing out of white collar jobs by AI, the slow dismantling of the public education system by religious groups, the destruction of habitat by development and pollution… Those problems don’t exist. What really needs solving is the issue of “woke” Hollywood types casting brown people in musical remakes, and trans people trying to play a sport or use a bathroom.
