I really don't understand why declining birth rates are a problem. Productivity is growing exponentially. In a 100 years or maybe a little longer, most of the work is probably going to be done by machines and AI (assuming we don't send ourselves back to the dark ages in some dramatic fashion). Most of the people working today will not be replaced when they eventually retire, and many more may find themselves unqualified to do essentially anything long before their retirement. It's not going to be pleasant.
We desperately NEED birth rates to decline unless and until we figure out a way to control our emissions and sustain ourselves in terms of resources.
