I'm writing this just as the Euro 2020 (yeah, you read that right) final is about to begin in London. England is excited because they believe they'll become European football champions for the first time - notice, just as they've left the European Union. The irony! Of course they could win if the English synchronized diving team led by Raheem Stirling manages to get under the referee's skin once more, and earn a couple more penalties. But let's not forget whom they're playing against. Italy. You know, Italy. Don't you ever presume to teach Italians about diving, m'kay?
More importantly for England though (not sure if you're happy that this is the more important England-related news or not), the Brits are obviously fed up with all those masks and restrictions and stuff. They've obviously started ranting and complaining more than usual about all this, so the ruling Tories, led by yet another genius who looks as if he's carrying a strange dead animal on his head (yeah, another one), you know, the same Tories with the "traditional values", but a Made-in-England version, have decided masks are indeed no longer necessary. Because people are ranting about it. Yeah. Smart, isn't it?
See, they've explained they're now relying on people's common sense and personal ethics to keep protecting other people and themselves, even if it's no longer compulsory. I'm sure this will go well. That new Delta variant of the virus be damned. It must've missed the news that people in England are oh so responsible.
I'll have to give it to Mr Genius, though. He's being a consistent Tory, the most consistent one there is. He waits to learn what people want to hear, so he gives it to them right away, the moment they require it. No matter of the consequences. Just like Brexit. He's the very embodiment of Toryness.
In the meantime, the difference between the English football team and the bulk of its fans is starting to get staggeringly noticeable. While the players are kneeling as a sign of respect for the BLM movement, many of their fans are booing them. While the fans are hurling racist slurs at immigrants and refugees, the players, to a great extent, represent those (if only genetically). While the players carry the LGBT colors as a sign of solidarity, the stands radiate homophobia. While the players carry out campaigns in aid of poor children, the wealthy Tories and their supporters mock them and threaten to boycott them. That's so nice, isn't it?
Given all this brain soup, it's kind of no surprise that it was England of all places that has become a hub for inventing and spreading new ways to infect people around the world with diseases. After all, the locals are fed up with having their rights and freedoms restricted with all those damned masks and stuff! They're having no more of it!
Oh, and let's talk about another genius nation, Hungary. Their recent homophobic laws have caused a wave of indignation across Europe. What's nice here is that the divide between Putin, ugh, I mean Orban supporters and detractors is now very clearly seen and the two camps can be recognized with no effort. The new ideological Iron Curtain has been drawn (guess which side my society stands on, eh?)
I've said it before and I'll say it again. While I've got no issues with gays, I certainly have one with those among them who tattoo swastikas on themselves, join the Skinheads and go to beat up other gays for being such. Closet gays who are more vocally anti-gay than real heteros, are probably one of the most disgusting things in the world. Along with all other hypocrites. Remember how many "defenders of the Christian values" there were around Europe last December (during the EU elections)? Well, the most vocal among them, one of Orban's lapdogs was caught pants down in a gay orgy. He even tried to crawl out the window to escape the papparazzi. He was one of the staunchest athors of anti-gay laws in Hungary. And he takes part in gay orgies. Wow. Just... wow.
They say it's "fashionable" and a "fad" to be gay nowadays. No, what's truly fashionable is to be a hypocrite.
So... A couple of things stick out for me right now.
1. All neo-fascists around the world are just so similar and easy to recognize!
2. They're also immensely confused. They say "values" and "Christian family" but they just mean bigotry, racism, homophobia and selective attitude to human rights. They say "freedom of speech" while they really mean propaganda. Interesting. When I hear the words "Christian family", I don't usually imagine Medieval ignorance - I imagine Jesus Christ and all his fellow Middle Eastern folks who were refugees from Herod's oppression. Persecuted, poor, and looking for refuge. See where I'm going with this?
3. When the Muslim refugees who came to Europe were being stubborn and saying "you can't tell us how we'll raise our children!" and they resisted integration into European culture, the conservative defenders of "tradition" were telling them, "since you're already here, you're going to respect our rules". But now when Europe is telling a recently integrated nation (Hungary) that the European family has these and these rules and they should be respected, those same defenders of tradition have turned the other side of the music record. Now their song goes like, "you can't tell them how to raise their children!" So which is it?
Hypocrisy, thy name is Tory.
