Anomie is an odd word. In its Greek roots it refers to lawlessness, but was repurposed in the C19th.

What does someone do when a serving minister of state answers a question in the House of Commons, and happily admits to drafting legislation that breaks international law, and a treaty this government had signed but 12 months before?

Legal aides, government lawyers etc have tendered resignations. The Biden campaign has stated if Joe wins, a breach of international law would damage any possibility of a trade agreement with the US. But still we shall plough on regardless, led by BoJo; who is being pushed forward by Cummings, disaster capitalists, Good ol' Vlad, and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all and all.

What is the sane response to all of this? Asking for a friend who is having problems with the surreal bleeding over into the actual.

In all seriousness though; given BoJo's majority and the fixed-term-parliament act there is no stopping this juggernaut excepting from the outside.

The UK has elected a government that happily admits to criminality of an international kind in its main legislative chamber. I cannot emphasise the symbolism of this enough. A full half of the population has been gaslighted into thinking that BoJo is doing a good job and that Brexit is a good thing and that our response to Covid has been "world-beating".

Look on this and be aware. The UK is being led by self-confessed criminals. We cannot remove them because of the fucked-up legislation passed under Cameron and the coalition. They have free rein to do as they wish until the next election...

The structural problems I've outlined explain why this needs external pressure to modify the government's behaviour. Now is the time for Europe to hold them to account. You will be doing the ordinary folk of UK a big favour; whether they know it or not. Of course the ordinary folk will hate Europe for it because they have been gaslighted. Denazifying Deprogramming them may take time. But still, this criminal administration needs to be contained and then held to account.

I wish I had a FT subscription so I could read the linked article, but alas.

Both BoJo and Trump need to be in jail. I knew the UK was having issues but I didn't realize it was about as bad as my country's. I'm sorry. :/
