So, Trump has banned travel from Europe (first he sowed confusion by alleging he was banning ALL trade of goods from Europe, then had to backtrack and "make clarifications", on Twitter of course), hoping to defeat the coronavirus with more of his nativism.

Then he used his beautiful mouth (the most beautiful on Earth) to essentially paint a rosy picture of a thriving economy and a nation that's the "best-prepared nation on Earth".

Well, sorry to rain on your party, Mr President Douche, Sir, but your economy is already taking major hits from the outbreak. And it's not the Europeans' fault. Furthermore, your travel ban is going to sink all those nice big air carriers that are the backbone of your economy. But you didn't think of that, did you. No, you didn't.

As for the travel ban, it won't help even one bit. Blaming and isolating foreigners is not an adequate response. But I guess that's just par for the course, yet another page right out of his playbook.

Just look how Merkel is handling this. She was solemn yet sober, she gave the facts, she leaned upon the science (well, unlike the Golfer-In-Chief, she's actually got a scientific background, and a medical one). She didn't spare her people the truth, and now they'll be prepared for whatever comes their way.

What the Don could've said is, look, this is some serious stuff. We'll take all workable measures, then we'll see how it goes within the next couple of weeks, re-assess, and see how serious things are. You folks need to practice social distancing voluntarily now, so we don't have to force you to do it later. You know, stuff like that.

But of course he didn't do that, did he? Because asking people to do the right thing would've been too much for him. Instead, he's going to blame others for his failures yet again. This time, they'll be failures on a massive, deadly scale.

Now you know the facts.

All the countries he's targeted are Schengen Agreement signatories, right?

Correct. Hah, and to think that we've been pushing so hard to join Schengen!

Guess he never realized a whole lot of other European countries exist outside Schengen. Quick! Run for visas before he figures that out!

And his more capably evil cronies figure that the Schengen Agreement is one of the steps the EU's taken to getting to be a real country.

This seems counter productive as having Trump issue a travel ban against you basically makes you a real country.

I suspect that such measures will accelerate the process of legitimizing the EU as a "country of countries" in the end.

Now imagine if the free and infallible market was the sole regulator of this situation. Things would've sorted themselves out on their own so beautifully, amirite?

We'd all be sentenced to death by poverty in seconds were that so. In seconds. This way, we have a better, longer-lasting chance to avert that outcome.

The Don closed the Pandemic Response Team of the CDC in order to cut costs in ‘18. After all, it's just nanny-state stuff. Thank God America doesn't have socialised medicine. They don’t need mollycoddling as they’re making America great again; one cut in vital services at a time.
