Biden - why not?
10/12/18 16:26I Like Joe Biden. I Urge Him Not to Run.
I don't understand telling people not to run. Here's a crazy idea: how about we let run whoever wants to and let the voters decide who should be the nominee? The argument that Biden fell short twice is meaningless. If he wins the nomination this time, he earned it. If he can't win one, he won't. But saying he shouldn't run now -- after being a popular vp -- simply because he didn't succeed at it 30 years ago seems nutty to me. If he's too old, let the voters decide. If his stance on positions turns off some liberal coalitions, let them decide. Frank Bruni, you shouldn't decide for people. You should just vote, like everyone else.
If anyone wants to spend the money to run the voters should let them and give them a fair shot. Sadly, too many voters tend not to do that. It's not just with Biden either. People are constantly telling Bernie not to run because of 2016 when in reality he should get just as fair of a shot as Biden or anyone else.
Conversely, Biden could do a calculation and put his full support behind Beto O'Rourke and advise him as necessary. Maybe the Democratic party would do better if they got away from the "age/experience - it's my turn" model of politics and learned to strike when the iron is hot... i.e. Obama. Remember, dems fall in love, republicans fall in line. ;)

Date: 11/12/18 01:44 (UTC)While I do think he has the best chance of beating Trump (out of the possible/probable candidates now)- he won't beat a great Trump, he won't beat a slightly above average Trump, and any Democrat can beat a terrible Trump - meaning, Biden is only useful against a slightly below average Trump.
