Who really hit the Saudis?

The most obvious answer (maybe too obvious) is, it's highly likely that Iran is at least partially responsible for this attack.
Iran has supported the Houthis in Yemen, and they are the only country in the region with the technological infrastructure and capabilities of developing the sort of drone capable of making a 500+ mile strike.
It's a smart move from Iran, if that were indeed the case. And one that we can thank Trump's boneheaded abrogation of the nuclear accord for bringing about. It's smart because it is plausibly deniable. Even the Saudis are loathe to attribute this to Iran, because so doing would spur a lot of uncomfortable questions. It's smart because the damage done is relatively light, but sends a very clear message: It could get very much worse unless you change your behaviour.
( Thanks, Trump! )
