Well I just came from Woodstock and saw the film GASLAND. Gas corporations are lining up to lease land and destroy the aquifers and our beautiful air we breathe and our water we drink in NY. They've already done it in 36 other states, they are getting ready to start Fracken, in Penn. and now they have set their sights on NY. This Tuesday in Albany, our legislators are going to decide whether to put an 11 month moratorium on gas drilling.
Dick Cheney got together in 2004 with his "Energy commission" which comprised of Hlliberton and all sorts of other Gas and oil companies, they managed to put through a law that eliminates gas companies from having to follow the clean air and clean water act. In other words folks, (and some of you might be already living this nightmare that won't go away once they've finished with wasting your land) your land , your air and your water isn't safe, Americans are no longer safe because gas companies can come in and destroy your water you drink, your air you breathe and make your land and house worthless. The terrorists are these people, who come in and take away your life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Isn't that the American way!
Check out the movie Gasland

In 1990 the Iroquois Nationals lacrosse team (ranked 4th in standings) quite remarkably became the only aboriginal nation to compete internationally in any sport. (If there is another, speak-up) The Iroquois Nations have been denied entry into the UK even as Hillary Clinton stepped in to issue a one-time waiver to allow the team to travel on their Six Nation passport.

Like many governments lacking sovereignty, in 1977 the Iroquois (Six Nation) League began issuing passports as a way of declaring some independence as a nation, or as some say the passport is a statement to show they are the original inhabitants of the country and are not subjects of the Crown. It is a matter of dignity, pride and distinction that non-sovereign territories produce passports, just as they would postage stamps and even currency.

For a document to have any value it must be recognized by the recipient as valid. The precedent of postage stamps being issued by non-nation/non-sovereign states, and recognized as valid has long historical record. Currency not so much (Confederate dollars) although there are exceptions like Bermuda and even smaller scale exceptions.

Why liberals should love the Second Amendment

When it comes to discussing the Second Amendment, liberals check rational thought at the door. They dismiss approximately 40% of American households that own one or more guns, and those who fight to protect the Second Amendment, as "gun nuts." They argue for greater restrictions. And they pursue these policies at the risk of alienating voters who might otherwise vote for Democrats.

And they do so in a way that is wholly inconsistent with their approach to all of our other civil liberties.

So, let's do a little poll and see what people here think. You can do this poll either before or after you read the linked article. Also, if the article changed your viewpoint any, please comment about that.

If I had my way....every High School curriculum would feature Amity Shlaes's The Forgotten Man....easily up with with other conservative classics such as Thomas Fleming's The New Dealer's War and Michelle Malkin's In Defense of Internment for understanding WW2-era America.....

In The Forgotten Man,finally someone sets the record straight about the Great Depression after decades of Left-Wing Propaganda to justify Big Government....How many leftists know that the many aspects of the New Deal such as the Natioanl Recovry Admin were copied from STALINIST RUSSIA....with such chilling phrases as "Why should Russians have all the fun remaking a world?”

Contrary to Leftist dogma....Schlaes understands that Big Government often acts in the same way that Private Businesses do....just as competative but only with more totalazing power and force behind them....Throughout the 1930s even the Brookings Institute concluded time and time again that Big Government was retarding recovery not helping it....

But Shlaes book is not all doom and gloom.....there is the uplifting story about a Schecther family of butchers who fought back against Big Government and helped killl the NRA.....

In times like these, when a Socialist President insists on remaking America in his vision, when Spending and Deficits and Entitlements are more out of control than ever,it is Imperative that we learn from the lessons of the past and realize that Big Government is not the answer....Private Business Knows Best.....

Check it out, conservatives!!!

On Saturday, Russ made a whargarbbl post about how Democrats in Congress are ruining the economy. In fact, the thesis sentence of the post was Democrats won Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008, and all we have to show for it is more debt, more government, and fewer jobs. Several charts have been posted many times showing the effects of Republican presidents upon the deficit and national debt, including who controlled Congress during those administrations. I think something a bit more sophisticated is warranted. I came across some great analysis of several questions, with some answers that surprised me a bit too. I thought it could be a great launch pin for some serious discussion and wanted to share it with the community. It's been put behind the cut tag for the tl;dr crowd ;)

Lotta words and big pretty charts! )

Conclusions:

1. On revenues and spending, presidential effects appear to overwhelm congressional effects. This is not surprising when you consider the presidential drives behind Reagan and Bush II's tax cuts and defense buildups, Johnson's Great Society plus Vietnam, Clinton's tax increases, etc. 2. Everyone increases spending (Republican legislators just barely) -- Democrats significantly more than Republicans. 3. Only Democratic presidents have the political courage to raise taxes. (Given this, their ability to get elected at all says a lot for their popularity.) 4. Of Republicans, only House members hold the line on debt, due to tiny changes in both revenues and spending. 5. Democratic presidents are the only ones to reduce the debt -- and they do so in a big way. (See #3.) 6. Overall, Democratic control is associated with greater growth in real GDP per capita. (In the Senate, Pubs and Dems are essentially the same.) To do the arithmetic for you: if Republican presidents had managed equal increases during their 28 years in power, GDP/capita would be approximately 15% higher than it is today -- $53K per person per year, as opposed to $46K. And if Larry Bartels' graph is any indication, far more of that (greater) GDP would be flowing through the hands of the middle class. That's my story and I'm sticking to it (unless you convince me otherwise).

Most people consciously or unconsciously buy in to the dominant racist paradigm at least some of the time. If you take little kids and show them a black doll and a white doll, regardless of the race of the child, when asked "which doll is smart?" or "which doll is a nice person?" kids of all races pick the white doll. Believing in these kinds of biases supports racism even if one "has black friends" and never says the N-word and agrees with MLK in the abstract.

A few recent posts sparked my interest - so I thought I would chip in.

I think it was Peggie mackintosh who drew up a 'white privilege checklist' - you know, all the ways in which me being white gets me a free ride in society where people who are black have to struggle. Yes, I think this is true - even in the UK, and maybe even more so in America, that the colour of your skin is an issue, when you have to deal with certain people.

So, then we get someone else drawing up a 'Male priviledge checklist', and again , there are things i never thought about, but some items on it seemed a bit wishful thinking. i mean, according to the checklist, I am supposed to be able to walk the streets without fear of being attacked, just cos I am a guy. I mean, come on - you seriously think that men do not have to worry about getting mugged on the way home from work, or feel no sense of unease on seeing a gang of youths heading their way?

Even so, , as I said, some things do have some sort of basis in the real world. As a bloke, I can walk into any shop I want and get shoes in my size, and know that there is going to be a good selection to suit me. Not so for my wife, I notice.

But you know what grants more people more priviledge than anything else? Money. Read more... )

So, I'm relatively certain of what I am about to tell you, but go ahead and disagree with me:

The US govt will, at some level, scan this post and it's contents to see if it's harmless or harmful based upon the fact that I am going to talk about freedom of speech and use a phrase which, I believe, will be picked up on some filter and be observed.

In 1989 the band known as "The Offspring" made a 12 song album, the last song of which was Kill The President
[it was a pretty dark album, overall; other songs include "Beheaded" and "Out on Patrol" and "Tehran" {originally titled "Baghdad" interestingly enough}

Lyrics of the song, and then some )
