Friday inquiry. What hooked you up to rock music (if at all)?

To those among us who are big fans of rock, metal and other sort of heavier music...

Could you share your first memory of the first rock/metal band that you ever heard in your life, and possibly the first song you ever heard from them? Come on, don't be shy, you can confess how old you are! =)

Actually what really hooked you to heavier music?

One of my Godmothers had three kids between six and fourteen years older than me. They were hip young things in the late sixties and I suppose at the age of eight or nine my parents were staying with them, and my kid bro' and I got exiled to the Drawing Room. Having ascertained that we were responsible and could operate a record player in it's various forms, we were, amazingly enough, allowed to play records; not my Godmother's husband's classical ones, of course, but their children's. Correction: This must have been around '70/'71. I was about ten years old, I guess. I'd already been in love with Abbey Road by the Beatles for about a year, but hearing Deep Purple In Rock and Led Zeppelin II changed my life; to the extent that I became a guitarist, rather than took the easier path laid out for me.

Mind you, I'm getting over it...

I started with the Beatles (cassettes). Not sure if it counts as part of the genre. Then there was Roxette. My dad also had a vinyl with Jimmy Hendrix. I'm talking a childhood in the 80s.

My first "real" metal was Metallica of course. Then, after a room-mate brainwashed me with Dimmu Borgir, I moved to heavier stuff.
