Super Tuesday approaches
28/2/16 20:53Getting nervous? One HuffPo article argued that if you're democrat-leaning, you should be. Why? Because of a lack of interest among Democratic supporters - well, at least compared to previous occasions when Obama was running. He did have the airs of being the "right guy at the right place at the right time" the first time, and then the amazing campaigning machine the second time. But now? Hillary Clinton doesn't seem to be the figure everyone could rally behind. As for Sanders, he may've reached the ceiling of his base's potential. That's the thing with populist candidates - they have something like a firm base, but little chance to expand beyond, and across the board.
That said, Ms Clinton seems to be preparing very meticulously for Super Tuesday. She's been all over the place, criss-crossing the country, and thanks to her dominant results in South Carolina (she won the African American vote by a larger margin against Sanders than the margin that Obama won there against her, which is quite telling), she's got the momentum. Could she shut him out after Super Tuesday?
One thing does make sense, though. If the democrats have the same or a similar turnout in the general election, the US could well end up with Trump as president. I don't suppose I need to tell you how horrible that sounds.

Date: 28/2/16 23:36 (UTC)I wouldn't take Trump's support among hard-core republicans as something that would translate to the general election. He seems much more like Sanders or Corbyn. Sure, they can get the votes in the thousands that are needed to win elections within their party, but the general election has a huge and much more moderate group of voters that show up. Then again, I never thought he'd make it this far, so what do I know. Anyhow, I never thought I'd be looking forward to hearing the words "President Hillary."

Date: 28/2/16 23:50 (UTC)Hillary vs Trump will be interesting, because shit doesn't stick to either. They could admit to everything they're accused of, and more - and it wouldn't phase their supporters. Mudslinging could become a nonfactor, between the two mudslinginest mudslingers in the whole darn election.
