Very neat!

I don't know if it's ever been shown/advertised outside of the U.S., but a great series that touches on a lot of these events (including the many various extinctions) is the recent "Cosmos" hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson (a followup to the wonderful earlier "Cosmos" series hosted by the incomparable Carl Sagan.) In some ways it's really just a survey course, a brief journey into some of these things, the people who discovered them, and how it all happened, but it's also designed for folks who haven't majored in/work in the scientific fields. I really strongly recommend it to anyone interested in the history of our world and its place in the universe.

People here download this kind of stuff from our awesome pirate websites. The episodes usually pop up there in high quality on the very next day after they've aired in the US, already translated, etc.
