So The Mercatus, a right-wing think tank, has declared North Dakota -- which recently passed an incredibly restrictive anti-abortion law, one of the free-est of all the fifty states

Once again, we see that when right wing libertarians use the word "liberty," they're using their own extra-special definition of it. As Salon has pointed out reproductive freedom apparently isn't even entered into the calculations,

Women, you see, just don't count.

That would solve the pregnancy part of the debate, but not the question of rearing the child. If the mother is seeking an abortion, it's clear she's not in a place where she can raise a child. Ensuring that every single pregnancy comes to term — in an artificial womb or otherwise — just ensures more strain on the adoption system. It wouldn't be a small increase, either: current adoption rates are in the low hundred thousands per year (https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubs/adopted0708.pdf) range, whereas abortion rates are about ten times that (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/figures/s713a1f1.gif).

Exactly. And even if the woman were technically able to rear the child, the fact that she is ending the pregnancy might be a warning sign that she doesn't view the father's seed as worthy of continuously tainting the earth.

When it comes to deciding whose genetic line should and should not continue, crowd-sourcing it to the women willing to carry a bit of that line to term is a good system.
