So The Mercatus, a right-wing think tank, has declared North Dakota -- which recently passed an incredibly restrictive anti-abortion law, one of the free-est of all the fifty states

Once again, we see that when right wing libertarians use the word "liberty," they're using their own extra-special definition of it. As Salon has pointed out reproductive freedom apparently isn't even entered into the calculations,

Women, you see, just don't count.

Somehow I suspect that the response time for the Berlin PD would be a bit more prompt.

Martin Luther King. Malcolm X. Rosa Parks. Harvey Milk. Bradley Manning Hell, I would have been locked up for protesting the Iraq Invasion in the early 2000s had I not jumped off a bridge to avoid the cops.

This country has a long and storied history of violently and brutally suppressing dissent.

Do you know why the >Letter From a Birmingham Jail was called that or how many times MLK was jailed for precisely this?

http://www.lib.lsu.edu/hum/mlk/srs216.html

No doubt having been given evidence that shows once again you're posting from another timeline, you'll swiftly deny you ever said that MLK was not locked up for his opinion and claim anyone who brings it up is misrepresenting you, which is your equivalent of saying you were wrong.

I just don't think you understand what violent repression actually entails.

...& a Viet Cong member being summarily executed by a U.S. ally more than 45 years ago? The guy who did the shooting in that picture died in the U.S. about 15 years ago. What's your point?

That not so long ago you could simply murder someone for holding an opinion, and not just escape punishment, but be supported.

I find it Ironic that someone who has in the past supported civil disobedience and property damage as legitimate forms of political protest would balk from more direct forms of confrontation.

He complains about being repressed, I don't think he really grokks what real repression looks like.

Perhaps a picture of Tienamen or the race riots of 1968 would have been more appropriate but still...

People still do murder other people for holding an opinion & still do escape punishment & are supported.

Who has in the past supported civil disobedience & property damage as legitimate forms of political protest? & who is balking at direct forms of confrontation? Me?

Who was complaining about being repressed? Or are you replying to [livejournal.com profile] underlankers or someone else?
