talkpoliticsBasque separatist group Eta has said it is ready to disband, give up its weapons and enter talks with the French and Spanish governments.
According to a summary of a statement published on a Basque newspaper website, the group wants to negotiate a "definitive end" to its operations.
Eta has fought a 45-year campaign for Basque independence, but has lost support in recent years.
Last year it announced an end to its campaign of violence.
So as screwed up as the world is it's nice to see that sometimes GOOD things still happen and that people simply getting feed up with violence can be more effective against terrorists than anything the law can do. Sure, terrorism is still going to be a problem in Europe. Real IRA hasn't gone anywhere, for example. But at least this is one fire that's been put out and one corner of the world will be much better off for it.

Egypt are Libya are now friends.The ROC and PRC have direct flights and billions in direct trade.The Venezuelans give discounted heating oil to (North) American New Englanders.The Algerians formed a coalition government with their former murderous Islamic fundamentalist rebels.Our peace challenged Mid-East ally assists the Syrian protesters/rebels .The Brits and the Argentines have agreed to peacebly settle their differences over The Falklands(Malvinas) Islands. The US elects a Black president, Brazil elects an Indian women president , the French elect a half Hungarian as president and the all Black congressional district in N'Orleans elects an Asian-American. . The PRC peacefully re-incorporates Hong Kong from the Brits and let's it maintain the status quo economic sysytem. The Indonesians allow East Timor to vote for independence. Bhuddist Nepal has a Maoist-Marxist government.The Argentines continue to try war criminals from their former dictatorship. And yet, The Israelis refuse to sign a final cease fire/peace deal with Palestinians in order to prevent a Palestinian State . Go figure."
