Parts of this video are narrated by a man who served as a German soldier and a German woman who lived right by the railroad tracks the cattle trains ran on that carried the Jews to their deaths.

If you watch this video and think that it's talking about "the other guy" and not your candidate, think again. Where do you think we are on the civilization cycle (around 5:20)? I think we're well into the apathy stage (as amply demonstrated on this very community time and again) if not dependence, and getting pretty close to getting back into the bondage stage. So, are you going to stay complacent, or actually do something besides make fun of others?

What do *I* do (http://talk-politics.livejournal.com/1355290.html)? I'm member of the ANCYL party here which is part of the ruling coalition under the ANC umbrella. I do my part in raising some sensitive issues to the fore, each time I'm given the mic to speak on party meetings - often to the annoyance of the majority of fellow party members, some of whom are not very willing to hear a different opinion and some uncomfortable truths; I'm socially and politically active, I try to raise awareness about the problems that really matter in my community; most of my conscious life I spend trying to alleviate the life of people in my community by trying to find proper jobs that match their qualifications, or if not any, to bring them to acquire some qualification in order to get a job and help themselves.

Now. What do YOU do, apart from (as amply demonstrated by your smug attitude, and your frequent "I don't have time to elaborate and you're not worth wasting much more of my efforts" moments), implicitly telling a group of online users that they're a bunch of apathetic imbeciles who are about to become slaves to the next Hitler, who's probably/maybe/definitely one among the next candidates ("And I'm just saying, I wonder which one")?

I'm sick of self-righteous preachers who are trying to teach me how I'm not doing enough, while comfortably sitting behind their keyboards with a bowl of popcorn. And, because once you get sick of something, you have three possible courses of action: 1) ignore it, 2) call it out, or 3) at least try to be amused by it, I've chosen something between (2) and (3). So yes, expect more making fun of conspiracy theorists like yourself. Because you'd like the alternative much less.

I'm glad she's bringing up the point that a small clique of highly motivated but disproportionately loud represented politicians essentially hijacked the political discourse and ultimately steered an entire society into a self-destructive spiral while the rest of them stood by, pretending not to know what was happening.

Where to begin? Let's start with Hitler consciously dialing back his advocacy of genocide in favor of promising to restore the unemployment list, which he did at the price of rigging an autarkic re-armament that could sustain itself only by warfare. Then let's note that this underrates the death toll, which was 22 million, that Hitler's genocidal tendencies began by targeting the disabled before they shifted to Jews, Gypsies, and Slavs, and that the German soldiers, not just the SS, were gleeful savages murdering Hitler's targets just as much as the guys in black with lightning on their shoulder tabs. I think that in calling the entire community apathetic you'dve been better served by pointing out Darfur or the global apathy to the DRC, more to the point, which is serving as the world's largest location for modern genocide, but that you chose the Holocaust instead is just pathetic. Let's just start this with the comparison of people in the United States to a German political movement that advocated a minimum murder of all the Poles and around 30-75 million Russians, along with all Jews in Europe, for the sake of Germany's so-called 'national mission' in the East, when Hitler actually was an extremely popular man who rose to power by offering overly simplistic solutions to a complicated economic crisis, engaged in a number of effective populist stunts, and his paramilitaries faced both Commie and Sozi paramilitaries so he wasn't even atypical there. Surely you can see why claiming apathy led to this, which is actually a blatant distortion of the record of events in the collapse of the Weimar Republic and the 12 year clusterfuck of Nazi misrule and epic fails is just a little offensive in that context?
