The latest round in the Ross Mirkarimi drama is that the Board of Supervisors failed to uphold Mayor Ed Lee's suspension of the Sheriff elect on official misconduct charges. The City's Ethics Commission had conducted an extensive hearing into the suspension and the evidence against Mirkarimi this past summer. They found that that there was insufficient evidence that Mirkarimi had done anything officially wrong. The only thing that held up was the domestic violence charge to which Mirkarimi had pled guilty. That was enough for the Ethics Commission to recommend against reinstating Mirkarimi to his position. The Supervisors were divided by enough of a margin that Mirkarimi is back on the job.

The argument for keeping Mirkarimi out of the position is that the Sheriff's department deals with domestic offenders. There is concern on the part of some that Mirkarimi will not process such cases as the Sheriff's department has in the past. There is also concern that reinstating Mirkirimi gives the green light to domestic violence. Opponents of Mirkarimi's reinstatement were also rather dismayed at the positive feelings exhibited after the vote last Tuesday. Supervisor Carmen Chu expressed disapproval at the expressions of relief and satisfaction that were displayed.

Mirkarimi is shown in this MSNBC stock photo with his black-and-blue letter. He will wear the letter for the duration of his political career and perhaps longer. His detractors are probably aware of Nathaniel Hawthorne's dramatic portrayal of stigma under puritanism. They may not realize how much they have in common with their New England cousins of the 17th century.

What is your gut reaction to this turn of events? Do you see this as a step back toward the dark ages of women living in fear of the heavy fist of a drunken spouse? Are the domestic violence advocates getting their knickers in a twist unnecessarily?

It would be nice if you provided some actual context for this instead of assuming people know what you're talking about. If I started blathering on about Tony Mancuso nobody would know who that is, and people would care about it not one whit. Second, your post makes assertions about approval of domestic violence without providing a scrap of evidence to prove it. Voting on it and calling people advocates for it is not sufficient evidence. If they are, I'm hardly surprised, after all there are Republicans who claim slavery was good and that Islams and Libruls want to take over the world like Pinky and the Brain, I suppose. But if reactionaries in Arkansas can be known for outright advocating this, then provide evidence that these people in the city of St. Francis are doing the same.

You posted on this, yes, but just as unintelligibly as you do on everything else. You have never provided evidence as to how Mirkarimi promotes domestic violence, and given that other people in the GOP are willing to be so ballsy as to actually support chattel slavery, that's not a sign of providing sufficient evidence for your assertion.

I still don't see what any of this has to do with Hester Prynne and her getting her ashes hauled by someone who wasn't her husband. And it's even more sad that you didn't drag in a gratuitous reference to Nathaniel Hawthorne's relation to Judge Hawthorne of Salem Witch Trials infamy, but then that would require actually doing research on Protestantism, which you'd need to acknowledge as actually existing in the USA first and foremost to do.

Hey, no single person holds the monopoly on incomprehensible obscure tangential references that only they know what they're about!

Nor does any one person have a monopoly on challenging said tangential references in the spirit of furthering clarity of communication. Especially when that person, as someone guilty as charged, is in a good position to know what it is when that person sees it.

I have spent ten minutes coming up with a response here and I have none that fall into the boundaries of civility, and so I shall refrain from responding past noting that I did read that comment.

Peace granted. I was trying to be helpful to Sophia, not nitpicking at her and posting random macros like I usually do. So I think we can chalk this one up to the Who's On First pattern of miscommunication using the same words in the same language to mean different things.

Did he bruise her arm by grabbing her?

Those I hurt have forgiven me, but that doesn't mean it was not abuse.

Its neither nice nor naughty.

Its important to recognize what abusive behavior is, and non-consensual bruising from heated grabbing falls under that definition. Even when its a handsome cop.

And if you think I am being too certain, you should see the certainty law enforcement personal display in these situations.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
