Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, he's the first black president of Harvard Law Review, and also the first black president of this little thing you might've heard of called these United States. The Ass-Kicking Kenyan (but only genetically, not legally), the Community Organizer in Chief, the Stimulator Supreme, BARRACK. HUSSEIN. OBAMA!

And in the challenger's red corner, he's a renowned businessman, dog-transport innovator, and hair model for Fulmer Helmets Inc. The Champion of 53% of America, The Magnificent Mormon, WILLARD. Wait am I reading that right? Seriously? God I see why he puts up with "Mittens" now. MITT. ROMNEY!

To all the thousands of partisan hacks here in the arena tonight, and the millions watching at home hoping their candidate doesn't drop the ball...

Did they pick the most annoying guy they could find for the pre-debate debate?

Well he had to stack the debate somehow.

neither of them are wearing Everlast gloves, so I'm hoping one of them gets really pissed. So far it's just a bunch of talk. Yap, yap, yap, yap....

Definitely. I was thinking the same thing last night. Either that, or do like an awards show and have an orchestra start playing once the candidate reaches his time limit.

I'm a little late to the party. Have they been interrupting and cutting both of them off on every answer, or just the ones I've caught?

I call it even. Pretty much what I expected, but with an abundance of big numbers thrown in.

I'm listening to Romney, and maybe it's just my confirmation bias raising it's head, but is it just me...or is he not making very much sense? Attacking Obama over 90 billion in green energy...then trying to tie that into paying for teachers? Then here was my favorite moment: "you're entitled to your own plane and your own house but not your own facts." Really Mittens? You're gonna try to channel THAT moment? *ugh* On the bright side I'm pretty sure he just blew himself out of the water by looking desperate and aggressive.

Aggressive is not desperation.

It's competing to win.

O uh O forgot his teleprompter.

I thought Mitt won, but not overwhelmingly so. I don't think this moves the polls very much, and I expect a buttload of handwringing from the media over it.

Romney sounded like a one-trick pony for awhile.
Then again, I was listening to it on the radio.
Then halfway through I switched to seeing it in person. Twas dull.

And not much was really debated, IMO. boo everyone involved.

I reckon that Obama's main problem was that Romney flip-flopped right there on stage; Obama would describe Romney's policies that he's been running on for months and Romney would come back with "is not!" And what could Obama do in the face of that? It's not "presidential" to call "liar, liar pants on fire" on stage, and it makes him look like he's not following matters closely if he presses the point by asking how long Romney has held his surprising new policy.

Also, Romney would make an assertion (Most memorably the one about the billions being "cut" from Medicare and the reduction in military spending) and Obama would clearly and calmly explain how that's BS, and that they were not cuts but savings... and Romney would continue to bang on about those "cuts" as though they were real cuts that Obama had not just debunked.

Polls have Obama doing rather well, and Romney is stumbling regularly in his campaign. If Obama can get to the finish line without the egg falling off his spoon, he wins. If Romney's poll results improve alarmingly due to this debate, Obama's team might decide that he needs to go in harder in future debates.

I really disliked the format. Two minutes per response only leaves enough time for sound bytes and zings. I think Romney "won," for whatever that's worth. I found it hard to follow at times, though. It was distracting that they weren't following the format/guidelines.

"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
