Someone had a fun idea on the internet this week: Chicken Offsets!

Hi! I'm Ted Frank and I love the chicken sandwiches at Chick-fil-A. But I also like my gay-married friends and don't like the guilt of indirectly supporting Chick-fil-A's stance on gay rights. And I know there are lots of other people in the same boat. So I've started ChickenOffset.com. Every time you buy a chicken-sandwich meal at Chick-fil-A, you can buy an "offset" here. You can print out the receipt and demonstrate to your friends that the money you gave for LGBT youth more than compensates for the profits you put in Chick-fil-A's coffers.

What would you like to have offsets for?

I prefer not to care about the pĂ´litical views of people I do business with.

My local grocer might be a nazi and a holocost denier, my barber might be a stanch zionist, the owner of my favorite restaurant might be a justing bieber fan. I prefer not to know.

Here's where you're wrong. Any Justin Bieber fans should be exposed in public so they could be rolled in tar and feathers, and walked down the marketplace to serve as a lesson to anyone who'd dare like crappy music!

They want you to believe he's a person, whereas in truth he's a reptilian lizardoid shapeshifter from Andromeda.

Well, so would most people I assume. But when you DO know, what do you prefer to do about it?

I'd campaign against my employers, the alcohol + tobacco + estates giant Vinprom Peshtera, deciding to invest in the Lokomotiv Plovdiv football club, the arch-rival of my fave hometown team Botev Plovdiv, with the intention to rescue them from bankruptcy and relegation into Division Two. I say let'em rot down in the regional divisions, the way we did for the last 3 years!!!

Now where do I sign up and what protest signs should I prepare?

Simple. Stop drinking their alcohols and smoking their cigarettes.

And earning my salary, selling their properties?

I'm a non-smoker.

The alcohol part, that's not so simple. :-S

Which reminds me. My bro did an experiment the other day, putting a bottle of their whiskey in the fridge. After a couple of days he took it out, and the whiskey had turned into some strange sort of jelly substance.

That's their "alcohol"!

I'm SO making a protest offset!

My husband and I tried Chick-Fil-A once many years ago, and we were not impressed at all. We called the place Chick-Fil-Death.

Staying away from Chick-fil-A isn't really a problem. If the CEO of Popeyes said some crazy shit though, I don't think I could take a stand.

It has the flavour of Bill O'Reilly's HOW IS MOONBY FORMED.

If sufficiently derpy photos of O'Reilly exist I'm sure they could make a great point/counterpoint lolwut

You're warping Dawkins.

He prefers to the truthful not-knowing of how the universe started over the absurdly arrogant claim that we know how it happened cause some bronze age mythology told us so.

Preferring the truthful not knowing of how the universe started and being closed minded towards the truthful not knowing of deities origins is a double standard.

From: [identity profile] chron-job.livejournal.com
It's not a matter of being "closed minded" towards deity's origins.

In the context of an ontological argument, a diety is offered as a solution to a problem... that being the existence of the universe. Dawkin's point is that such an offering is pointless, and circular unless there is some compelling proof for the deity independent of the ontological question.

Not believing in things without adequate justification is not close mindedness.

From: [identity profile] root-fu.livejournal.com
The premise of a deity creating the universe is not an unfalsifiable prediction.

It may be verified or disproven by research.

Hence, its perfectly valid despite Dawkin's and others attempt to muddle and twist the issue to suit their own atheistic belief system.

Registering another obsession, apart from 911-trutherism and atheist-bashing: open mindedness. Everyone should have their heads open and poured some mind and wisdom inside. Root_fu style! And God help them if they refuse to have their minds opened.

How about trash fiction? We could have offsets that gave money for real books to local libraries, just as long as we got our Harry Potter and Twilight crap. Every copy of Game of Thrones sends two of Smith's Wealth of Nations to local shelters!

Quite so. The money should go to people who agree not to eat Chick-fil-A, or to people who eat less Chick-fil-A than they did in 1992, or if they are in the developing world, to people who eat an increasing amount of Chick-fil-A. Or, to Al Gore. I mean, come on!
