Aaaalright. Who's watching the Olympics? Why? Why not?? Which sport do you like most?? Which athlete are you drooling after rooting for?? Do you care at all??? What about the opening ceremony??? How weird was it, rated from 1 to 10???? Are you bored by all this questioning??????

Why do *I* watch the Olympics? Wellll.....

Really. Why would anyone love the Olympics? I don't know, you tell me!

And the patron of these Olympics? Ain't she such a sweet lady?

Cap'n Pickard ain't delighted either.

And the opening? Smokin' chimneys, cylinder hats, and all those kids in hospital beds... JUST MARVELOUS!

I don't get it. At the opening ceremony they used rugby footage to present England, Scotland and Wales. But rugby doesn't even feature at the Olympics. WHYOHWHY!?

Also, baseball.

Darts, anyone? Snooker?

And... chess? Where's chess, dammit?

Don't forget poker, pinball, tetris, and that game where you have to pass beneath a rope without squatting.

Also paintball. And rollerskating.

Poker could definitely be an olympic sport, in freezeout tournament format, with a large-field qualifying structure, for non-pro's only.

Unfortunately (for America), there's no padding in rugby. ;-P

I am sure someone in America would decide that it is a "womanly" sport, and one day the US women's rugby team would excel at it.

It was an Olympic sport, and the last time it was played, the United States won the gold medal (1924). I'm not sure why rugby was dropped though. It's been restored for Rio in 2016.

This is good news. It's a very spectacular sport, especially when watching live.

I don't know why it's not so popular in America. It's territorial, physical, and all. Maybe because it's too similar to touch football, so there's no niche for it there.

USA has a rugby team but it's been more than mediocre.

I love watching the events and seeing sports that typically never get the time of day here in the United States. The opening ceremonies too for a variety of reasons (e.g. that they used lines from one of my favorite Shakespeare plays to set the theme- the short video movie showing the Thames River's source, and following it along to London with vignettes of people who live by it). All the uniforms / national dress (see below) and the stories of courage in their respective countries (e.g. Tunisia's Malek Jaziri [tennis] and the Independent Athletes (e.g. South Sudan who were my personal favorite-- they literally were dancing into the stadium because they were so happy to be there). Being a photography geek, I love checking out the camera gear used to photograph/broadcast the events, and some of the photographs are just stunning pieces of art. And oh yeah, I like watching the hot man studs.

And I'm just awed by South African runner Oscar Pistorius, who has no lower legs, but is competing in the games.

Those legs may actually make him a better runner than those silly fleshies.

Or they may not. The Olympics believe they don't.

I thought about that, I think he deserves to compete. The other athletes are free to augment their legs if they....oh wait. Someone will be chopping the legs of young athletes next!

I used to watch the Olympics with my grandfather while growing up. it was An Event, and they always remind me of him. Podunk rural town in North Dakota, and the TV was glued to that channel for what, two weeks? It was fabulous.

I've always tried to catch what I could of the Olympics in the intervening years. Online, in the news, following some of the athletes of various nations. I love the stories.

This year, I've cut cable. Just as well, since I have no idea where it's airing anyway.

The only part of the opening ceremonies that even remotely interested me -- and the only part I saw, via YouTube -- was Mr. Bean.

I know about Michael Phelps because I deliver newspapers and glances at the top of it.

I know about some Chinese gymnast because of TP (sorry, didn't read through).

I know about the women's gold in skeet shooting, because no one else has any idea because guns.

I've seen exactly zip of anything other than swimming for a two minute period when I stopped in to chat with a friend at the local hotel and it was on the TV in the lobby. I paid it no attention.

No one talks about it at work, at the grocery store, while getting gas... and this is a sports-oriented area. Hobbies? No. But every kid plays three or more sports in school. It's the local recreation around here.

There is very little caring about these games, that I've seen, online and IRL. Including me. The most interest I've had has been the hoo haa around the Olympic Word Police, because it had direct connotations for freedom and my life. And an online friend made sculptures that are in the Olympic Village, but we'll never see them because offlimits for security purposes.

Congratulations, NBC. You done sunk your battleship.

I watched cycling, women's basketball, some swimming and gymnastics. The only ones I'm terribly impressed by are the gymnastics and perhaps the swimming. Gymnastics is impressive to watch. It just is. For the winter I like to watch curling, because curling is ten times more exciting than gymnastics, even... I kid I kid!

Curling is actually fun to watch live. They never stop screaming. I used to watch it all winter at the Winter Palace in the Students City in Sofia in my university years.

The only reason I would watch would be to see my step-mom. Trouble is, they never zoom in on the judges.

My step-brother found this image from the qualifying stuff. She's indicated with the arrow. It took dedication to find just that much. For me, too much sitting through silly ads and shit about which I could not give an aerial intercourse.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
