Cristiano Ronaldo to Leo Messi:
"I'll see you in the Champions League final!"

O, RLY???

Two days later, Messi to Ronaldo:
"Where will we watch it, at your home or mine?"

...I can imagine those two "super-stars", sitting at the sofa, eating popcorn while their rivals are playing in the actual final. Beautiful!

Barcelona's 1st semi-final game vs Chelsea in a nutshell:

Barcelona's 2nd semi-final game vs Chelsea in a nutshell:

Fernando Torres hadn't scored a goal for ages - before this game LOL. Now he scored the goal that finished Barca - in the last minute.

Barcelona vs Chelsea in a nutshell:

In turn, Real Madrid's reaction to their defeat by Bayern Munich (through penalty shoot-out):

Priceless!

The actual penalty shoot-out:

And for the football insiders, a bit of pun-spam on the subject: HERE.

Don't you just LOVE it when the presumed favorites implode so spectacularly and the so-called underdogs progress to the final at their expense? We were told the "El Clásico" between Barca & Real was inevitable to happen there. Now what?

...Now we enjoy real fucking football.

The absence of those two theatrical troupes from the CL final is a breath of fresh air.

Yes we do love it. I'll be rooting for Chelsea in the final because, surprisingly, they happen to be the presumed underdog in the final. And because I've been their fan for ages (also of their equivalent here in SA, Mamelodi Sundowns).

Pretty poor record against anyone, really, given that it used to be "our game". But that's all right because not only can we share, we're big enough to lose: alas sometimes not gracefully, dammit.

Lucky? Man Utd have the luck of the devil. Something wrong there, I reckon.

Chelski parked the bus and won, hehehe.

But Bayern simply outplayed the famed white ballet. Well done. They deserve the trophy.

And Torres? If he hadn't scored that one, he better quit footie!

Normally I'd support anyone but Chelsea. However since John Terry is banned for being a stupid fucking thuggish wanker, I may just find it in my heart to cheer for them.

Got to admit it was funnier than Messi's miss, which had the air of tragedy about it.

Can someone explain what's going on here as if I was 5 years old and never followed football.

See first link (under the O, RLY?)

The two currently best teams in the world (presumably), Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, are traditionally locked in a fierce rivalry between themselves (their matches are called El Clásico), because they're from the same country (Spain). Their rivalry goes way beyond sports, because there are ethnic divisions lurking beneath the surface in the Spanish society, and each team represents a group in Spain: Real Madrid represents the Castillians from Madrid, and FCB represents the Catalans who are very independent and often separatist in their sentiments.

Now, all the media (and not just the Spanish ones) were predicting that everything was so set up that the two juggernauts would eventually meet in the final of the biggest international club competition in the world (Champions League). BUT! Both of them got knocked out on the semi-final by "weaker" teams (first Barcelona was beaten by Chelsea who are presently 6th in England but that didn't stop them from playing very intelligently and exploiting Barça's weaknesses; and then Real Madrid were beaten by Bayern Munich who are 2nd in Germany, that defeat was particularly dramatic because it went through the roulette that is the penalty shoot-out).

And so the puns & jokes ensued! The internet was flooded with mocking macros, gifs and all that, many of them directed at the biggest stars in the two teams (winger Cristiano Ronaldo and coach Jose Mourinho from Real; forward Lionel Messi from Barcelona, etc). Because both Real and Barça deserve to be mocked, due to their chronic arrogance and their famed status of unbeatable gods. Now turns out they aren't that invincible, and that makes a lot of people delighted.

Well the major sports leagues in the USA operate more like government-enabled cartels than independent owners. The idea of a draft is an anathema to free enterprise capitalism, but that's us crazy Yanks. Maybe that's what tripped you up.

True story, I originally meant my user name to represent the area code I lived in at the time, and I had no clue what http codes were.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
