Apologies if the Mod God's do not approve the 'format', but I have a simple question for those humans outside the boarders of the USA.

The rest of us can take a break and enjoy the POV of our global citizens.

Do you find the POTUS election in the USA to be entertaining like these FRANCH people??

If so, why? Who is your favorite character in this Dramedy we have over here in "The States"?

Obviously, as an 'insider' I can not offer an opinion.

In the meantime, enjoy this funny photo of a USA actor that the FRANCH find hilarious:

This photo was allegedly taken when someone gave Jerry a 'mini-van'

I have yet to decide whether this thing is a tragedy or a farce, to be honest. It's got a leader who's relatively weak and indecisive, but next to his opponents is a miracle of rationality, good faith, and good logical straightforward ideas, an Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist who is being set up to be the Dog whose Chain gets yanked, a Ted Baxter con man trying to get people to vote for flat-out Elmer Gantryism, and the USA's new Scrappy that replaced the old one, Nader. Frankly if this is a TV show, we either need better writers or simply to put these guys to work screwing up every other country as bad as this one is.

It looks as if the GOP candidates aren't for real. Hence the impression that someone has written a strange screenplay for the US.

From this side of the pond it seems the GOP has a few problems, and if one of its candidates wins the position of POTUS, the rest of the world has those problems too.

Obama has been hamstrung by the loss of the House, and therefore seems weak. He may be stronger in a final term and with little to lose, which is why it is amazing that the Republicans have made this fractured mess for themselves to fight him with.

Quite amusing if you are a rational person…right up to the point where in one reality or another Santorum actually wins and turns the USA into an American Catholic thearchy AKA the Republic of Gilead.

The thing that fascinates me is the way that the rest of the world is affected by US politics, yet has no representation in Washington. Perhaps what we need is a global Tea Party revolt of "No Washingtonization without Representation."

Although I partake of room and board within the confines of federal boundaries, I consider myself to be above the fray of American presidential campaigning. As one of our community members observed, American politics is entertainment by another name.

I am very curious about the FRANCH people. Are they a combination of Franks and Texans?

BTW, Jerry looks like he has just received an affectionate caress from one of his companions.

The most telling paragraph read thus:

"Unlike the U.S., with only two functioning parties (maybe that's going a little far) that you can sometimes barely tell apart and no real left to speak of, France has many active political parties, from extreme left (and the Parti Communiste Français is not considered extreme left) to extreme right. One Frenchwoman I spoke to this week sniffed, "Obama isn't even a social democrat!" (that's about center in France)."

The U.S. is not a multiparty democracy. It's basically a center-right single-party state with two main factions that masquerade as different parties; there may be more "extreme" factions in either wing (Green Party on the left, Constitution Party on the right, for organized example), none of which have the remotest chance of even electing a single member to the House of Representatives, and even these "extreme" elements are mild compared to actual extremes in Europe, where you have racist nationalist parties (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_People%27s_Party#Policies) and far-left radicals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Left_%28Germany%29) who make your typical raving communist hipster look rational by comparison. It's been said before, but we Americans don't seem to ever understand, that "right and left" in America is equivalent to "center right" pretty much anywhere else.

So, I see the True Finns and Danish People's Party and the Communist Party of Greece actually winning elections and think, "those Franch people" look with horror at us? I'm sorry, but Le Pen makes Rick "Frothy" Santorum look like a decent individual.

Winning in a parliamentary system is different than winning in a US type of republic. But, I have to ask, with your examples in the last line there, what exactly do you mean by "winning" In reg. to those parties and politicians?

^What he said. The USA's political leadership has always in actual practice been mostly generic and interchangeable. There's only been a few exceptions and those are the POTUSes people can actually name. They are IMHO TR, FDR, Lincoln, and Washington. With Grant neglected because he was *too* modern for his time and too obscure after the Civil War in terms of our own. All the rest could have been interchanged with the people running against them and it would have made no difference.

Well..hm, with the vocal rise of the tea party, and then continuing vocal expressiveness of conservative comedians such as Glenn Beck as well as various political spokes people on the conservative side, there is some awareness in various European
countries that the conservative US doesn't like much about the system(s) in Europe. European countries have been used as scare tactics with half-truths and lies in think tanks and public comments for a long while now, and so, there is an awareness that one part of the US is less friendly than the other, and this, of course has an effect in how the pubic watches the spectacle.

Boy let me tell you the questions I get from friends in Europe when they hear or read something utterly stupid a tea party backed candidate will say. It's so embarrassing. I tried to explain it a few times, but then I just learned to say "well that's crazy politics here." :-/

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
