In your mind is a representation of the outside world that you've created based on the inputs to your mind, which had to pass through your senses to get there. You are bombarded with more than 1 million bits of information each second and your mind can only handle 126 bits of it. So, you delete, distort, and generalize all that information down into something you can handle. And then once that information is processed, you can make decisions based on it. The information itself does nothing on its own. It has to be acted on by your mind. Most of it will be unconscious, but you can still control that. Emotional harm is done to yourself by your subconscious, in general.
