You don't need another account. Just start a post in your own LJ, occasionally save it, but post it as a "Just-you" (i.e. private) post. Then you can come back to it at any time and edit things until it looks OK for posting in public.
Strikedthroughs are easy. The html code involves adding < s t r i k e > and that's all. :-)
I also keep the 3 most frequently used html codes here handy on a .txt file: - embedding a Youtube video - including an image - linking text to another website
I can't remember the exact codes so I got them saved.
