Texas has been the only Red state to buck the trend of being essentially a financial drain with shoddy infrastructure and with an inability to support itself without the largesse of the very system so many Texas politicians bewail as the end of all things. The first two articles are general looks at how the most functional Red State economy is poised to be the USA's equivalent of Ireland: it will always seem stable until it completely and utterly implodes at which point there will be massive hoopla about what happened. And of course another instance of fiscal conservatives begging for a bailout.

As seen here, Rick Perry is denying funds for poor children in Texas, despite said children amounting to a full quarter of Texas's population. I am sure this will provoke the usual statements that poor people in the USA don't exist. To which my only response is to invite you to go survey North Lake Charles sometime and get back to me.

To make matters more fun, Texas has 9 billion dollars in rainy-day funds to use. This is in a state where the number of kids in public schools is growing but to cut spending (and presumably teach kids about Jefferson Davis, loser of the Civil War, but not Thomas Jefferson, incompetent territorial expander and ideologue). There's even questions of whether or not in claiming the fund still exists the Texas Republican Party may or may not be blatantly lying.

Thus the great conservative economic miracle may soon be facing some severe problems, and all this from the same sleight of hand and blatant lies about the economy used to make Reaganomics work. The great part? Governor Moonbeam has found a fairly good budget for California without major histronics:

As the California budget has far less major issues with it for long-term viability than Texas's attempts to hammer the rusting kettle to keep the kettle from going boom does, I daresay that this is another round won by the blue states over the red. This again also raises the question of why Red State politicians have to resort to such desperate measures and kabuki to the point that to keep from paying any taxes whatsoever they increasingly gaze into the abyss? I will chalk this up to the same mentality whereby states that are a net drain on the federal government accuse said government of being in league with Satan while overlooking their own inability to survive without said Great Satan.
